Yes it's a cost decision, I think they've fumbled around the security message but fwiw the VP states in this post they didn't project enough people left on Win 10 with ESU to justify supporting it; same cost decision with ItsDeductible which only had 100k users, and they also scrapped desktop basic edition.  Desktop is only 1% of Intuit revenues, 4mil users (incl Mac) declining 5% annually vs. 35mil online/live returns growing 8-10% annually.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/articles/community-news-announcements/turbotax-windows-10-desktop-software-end-of-life/05/3708302   The issue of PC replacements is an MS issue - they didn't extend support (it ended 2 weeks ago), ESU is security life support to get off Win 10.  There are hacks to extend lifespan of old H/W which people are using to upgrade to Win 11.  Most people have to deal this in the next 12 months anyway whether they plan to use turbotax or not.
Guess what? And by the way: That statement sounds like a tacit admission that the 2025 TurboTax desktop products MAY actually install and run on Windows 10 machines.

Possible they exit desktop but years away I would think, even if it's only 1% of revenue they wouldn't want to cut off millions of users they think can convert to online.  Until that happens, why disrupt your tax process unless you have to.  Personally I would never touch their online platform for multiple reasons (cost, functionality, privacy) but will ride this desktop train as far as it goes, but that requires keeping up with a fully supported OS.

The email was from Turbo Tax, it's says "We’re contacting you because there might be an issue with the accuracy of your 2024 tax return. Due to an error impacting data imported to TurboTax, you might have incorrect information on your tax return from box 12 of your W-2. Please review to make sure the information in your return is accurate."   Upon further investigating I noticed on my tax worksheet it showed only one code for DD. On my W-2s it's showing three codes, C,D, and DD. My question is sense only one code is on my tax worksheet, does that mean the other two didn't transfer over properly?    I now know you're supposed to double check this stuff, I've only done my taxes twice alone. I'm trying, haha.

So I reviewed my W-2s and it shows I have three codes in box twelve. When I went over my tax worksheet that I did through turbo tax it's only showing one code. My question is, if the other codes did not show up on the tax worksheet, does that mean my box 12 didn't transfer properly and I need to amend this?    For example: my W-2s have codes C, D, and DD.  When I look at my tax worksheet on here it's only showing code DD and not the other two.    I've only done my taxes alone twice, sorry for the confusion.

You don't say who you got the email from or what you are supposed to do with the information.  From the codes you do have, there does not look like anything needs to change.  If your employer got the codes wrong and issues a corrected W-2C, then ask us again.    Here is an explanation of the codes https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/taxation/letter-codes-box-12-w-2-mean/L6MwZLvmd_US_en_US   Code C is the taxable cost of group life insurance.  This is not entered on your tax return, because that value is already included in your box 1 wages.   Code DD is the cost of employer-sponsored health insurance.  This is collected for statistical purposes and has no effect on your tax return either.   Code D is elective deferrals to a pre-tax 401(k) plan.  This is not entered on your tax return unless the amount is more than $23,500, or $30,500 if you are over age 50.  The contribution was already removed from your box 1 wages, the amount is not normally part of your tax return.  (If you have excess contributions, they need to be removed and other adjustments need to be made.)

like 1 chance in a trillion. it came out with a new notification about 2 weeks ago that W11 would be required to run Turbotax Desktop 2025. there may be workarounds. since no one has 2025 yet, you'll have to wait for suggestions that work at least for some users. Otherwise. your options are using a competitor or switching to online. risks of using a noncompliant computer is that the accuracy guarantee may be void and you may reeeive do direct support from Intuit if you run into problems
Will Intuit come to its senses and provide its normal desktop version(s) for individual consumers as it has in the past for tax year 2025?
@baldietax  I checked on this offer and can confirm it is for personal. The article has been updated so that is clear. Thank you again!

Note that in this situation, if he uses itemized deductions, he can probably deduct his mortgage interest, but he can't deduct property taxes that he pays.    Mortgage interest can be deducted by a legal owner or a beneficial owner.  Beneficial owner means someone who owns the property in all but name -- they pay the bills, mow the lawn, perform other maintenance and upkeep, and generally take on the responsibilities of ownership, but are not on the deed.  Assuming you are paying the mortgage from his money, then he is really paying it, and he can deduct the interest.    However, property taxes can only be deducted by the legal owner, if they pay the taxes.  There is no allowance for beneficial owners when it comes to the property tax deduction.
