I have received a 1098-T for an amount less than 100 dollars, but otherwise have not and will not receive additional forms from my institution. Is there a best way to proceed?

When you import your 2024 return, TurboTax brings forward carryover items, prior-year data and personal details, but it doesn't carry over your 2024 income into your 2025 Income Summary.   The 2025 Income Summary only shows actual 2025 income entries that you enter or imported for the current tax year. Prior-year income isn't supposed to appear there.

Review the TurboTax Help article How to clear your cache and How do I delete cookies? for specific instructions for your browser.  Also, reboot your computer.   Also, try the suggestions in this help article for troubleshooting TurboTax Desktop for Windows issues.   When using a Desktop version of TurboTax, save the return regularly as the tax data file ending in .tax2025 (for 2025 returns) to help avoid data loss. Information entered in Desktop is only saved on your computer unless you also save it elsewhere.

Yes.  I also have Vanguard IRA also and make QCD distributions.  A QCD is not taxable and does fulfill the RMD requirement.  I do a  QCD every year.   If you are 70 1/2 and made a QCD distribution from your Traditional IRA account…..it is not taxable.   It will be entered as a IRA distribution on 1040 Line 4a but will as show zero taxable with QCD showing up by line 4b.  It is not added on to Schedule A so you don’t need to itemize deductions to get credit for it.   A QCD can only be made from an IRA.  It can cover your RMD amount.

Yes, box 2a is the same as box 1 indicating the distribution is taxable. Box 7 is 7 (Normal Distribution) and the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box is marked.    However, box 2b is checked as well (Taxable amount not determined). Could box 2b be checked since she made a qualified charitable distribution? This means the total in box 2b isn't taxed since the QCD is subtracted from the taxable amount.    I think you are right - the distribution is taxed. I have no idea why checking the inherited box would cause TurboTax to think the distribution isn't taxable. There must be some special case where an inherited distribution is not taxable. I was worried that I screwed up when I told her to assume the Traditional IRA as opposed to inheriting the Traditional IRA. Vanguard gave me both options and didn't mention an inherited traditional IRA could be tax exempt. Still, I don't see any circumstance where distributions from an inherited traditional IRA or an assumed traditional IRA would be tax free.    Eddie.

I'm using turbotax online premium and have a K-1 that lists Michigan State income taxes paid by a flow-through entity, and Michigan State refund from a flow-through entity.  There is no place to enter these for 2025.  I'm pretty sure this was available in 2024.  If I look at the "Deduction for Taxes Smart Worksheet" it has a line called "Share of Michigan income tax paid by flow-through entities (Not supported)".  There is a similar "(Not supported)" line in the "State and Local Tax Refunds Smart Worksheet".  Will there be an update soon to support these?  Is there any other way I can fill these values in?

According to the IRS instructions for Form 8962, the form is not required if you did not receive an Advanced Premium Tax Credit and you are not claiming a premium tax credit on your tax return, even if you had Marketplace coverage. ‌    Form 8962 is required to reconcile any advance payments or to claim the premium tax credit.   The IRS instructions state the following:  You must file Form 8962 with your income tax return if any of the following apply to you: You are taking the Premium Tax Credit The Advance Premium Tax Credit was paid for you or another individual in your tax family. The Advance Premium Tax Credit was paid for an individual you told the Marketplace would be in your tax family and neither you nor anyone else included that individual in a tax family.    The instructions go on to say that If any of the circumstances above apply to you, you must file an income tax return and attach Form 8962 even if you are not otherwise required to file.    In general, you must include your Form 8962 with your Form 1040 to reconcile premium tax credits if you had Marketplace coverage, but you do not attach Form 1095-A. You would use the information from your Form 1095-A to fill out Form 8962, and then keep the 1095-A for your records.     Click here for Instructions for Form 8962 (2025).
Hi Rene, I did those steps but when reviewing my form before filing my Form 5329 Part IV Additional Tax on Excess Contributions to Roth IRAs on line 25 still lists the penalty.

If you submitted your return using the website and got confirmation it was accepted, then you can be confident in that result. If you also have the app open, for the same account and same returns, it could be that it is operating at a slower speed than your other device or application.   After you e-file your return, it's considered "pending". After the IRS processes your return, it'll either be accepted or rejected.   Once you submit your return in TurboTax Online, you'll see its status on the Tax Home screen of your account. We'll also send you emails letting you know when your e-file status changes.   See this help article for more information.

UPDATE: Thank you Turbotax for fixing the software to include explanation of my missed RMD & your calculations.  I was able to file electronically and my tax due, did not include the penalty. I was able to give a five line explanation for my late RMD, save it & have it appear in my filing. Though, I was thankful that I had decided to use the desktop version & follow the other instructions given. Thank you community! -------------------- Turbotax, will you please fix this soon!?! I have wasted most of my Sunday trying to make your software work the way it should! It sounds like you are telling me I need to mail in my return.  I have a 1099-R for 1 distribution & one that wasn't completed (no 1099-R)
