Here is how you can clear those short-term rental questions from your file, depending on which version you are using.
If you use TurboTax Online 1. The simplest method is to use Tax Tools to delete the specific form associated with rentals (Schedule E). 2. Sign in to your return and select Tax Tools from the left-hand menu. 3. In the pop-up window, select Tools and then click Delete a Form. 4. Look for Schedule E (Rental and Royalty Income) or any worksheet that says "Rental" or "Short-Term Rental." 5. Click Delete next to those forms, then confirm. 6. Once deleted, click Continue or Return to Summary. This should clear those questions. If you use TurboTax Desktop (CD/download) 1. You have access to "Forms Mode," which shows you exactly what is triggering the questions.
2. Check the left sidebar for Schedule E or a Rental Worksheet. 3. To open the form, simply click on it. 4. If the form is present, go to the Forms menu at the top of your computer screen and select Remove [Form Name]. 5. Return to step-by-step mode to complete your return. If TurboTax still asks about it after you delete the form, check the following two areas: Previous Year Import: If you imported data from last year and unintentionally checked a rental box, it may be attempting to "carry over" that information. Income Slips: Sometimes entering a 1099-MISC or 1099-K with specific box entries (such as Box 3 "Other Income") can result in the "Is this rental income?" interview. If you have one of these, review the follow-up questions for that particular slip.
Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
