I filed an extension through TurboTax and sent tax payment amount that I expected would be owed. That number was low and I owed more which TT figured the penalty owed by using the date that I entered I would pay. Coincidentally the same day I filed final tax form.   The electronic filing instructions stated pay by 4/15. This is after I filed an extension and noted paid amount then in TT, so obviously TT should have directed to pay amount noted by day that I entered I would pay (10/2), so that the penalty amount would be correct.   The bigger issue with TT though is that I was directed to send payment, even though the tax I filed through TT directed IRS to withdraw from my bank account directly.

As the subject says: I transmitted my federal and state returns. TurboTax told me that all is good and that I can quit, so I did. After receiving emails that both returns were accepted, I reopened the return file, and was surprised to see the "We're ready to file your taxes" screen. In the past TurboTax would display a confirmation that the returns were accepted, but not this year. When I click "Continue", it asks me how do I want to file. OK, so I tell it to e-file and click "Continue" -- now it tells me that returns were transmitted. No hint that they were accepted.  I click "Continue" again, and it asks me again how do I want to file. This loop repeats ad nauseam. What is going on there? Has anyone else run into this?

I just called support 800-446-8848.  In short, the tech wasn't able to help. -I gave him my license code below, which appears directly from my account. -he said that license code was cancelled, and that the email registered with the license code doesn't match what I told him.  I asked 'how does one cancel it?" -I told him I bought it from another retailer and will  have to find the receipt.  I asked: When I find it, do I call back for help?    Something about "We guarantee 60 days support for product..." Anyway, I'll just assume he's not very helpful, find my receipt, and call again and hope to get someone more helpful.    
Try not entering anything in the boxes that ask for a SIN on the child care receipt page. Instead enter the Québec Identification Number or Social Insurance Number in Box H on the Releve 24.

I'm having a problem with netfiling for Quebec (TY2024). It's giving me this error "The identification number or the social insurance number (SIN) of the person who provided day care services is missing, incomplete..." on the RL-24. When I go to fix it, I double/triple checked the number in box H of the only RL-24 entry, but won't clear the issue and I can't even get to NETFILE.   It's the number that I have on the RL24 slip, the id number from box : H Childcare provider identification number (lines 26.2 to 37.2 of Schedule C), it's 10 numbers.   I have found this post, with the same error, but I cannot open it: https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/community/*/*/*/00/2124165   Is there a moderator that can post the solution posted on the above article which I can't open? @HollyP and @GiseleD  that post seems to have a solution for this exact problem and I can't open it.   I've already had a ticket and had support look at this and they can't resolve it, I couldn't even upload the care file.   TY

An extension is an extension of time to file your tax return, not an extension of time to pay the tax that you owe. The payment due date of April 15 is correct. The penalty for late payment is based on the date of payment, not the date of filing. After the IRS processes your tax return they will probably notice the double payment and send you a refund without your having to do anything. So just wait a couple of months and see if you get the refund.

That hasn't been announced.  So still need Windows 11.
With Windows 10 support now extended to October 2026, will TurboTax 25 be able to run on Windows 10?

TT electronic filing instructions which states that "Your taxes are not complete until all required steps are completed."   Under What You Need to Mail, it states Your return shows a balance of $XXXX. Mail your completed Form 1040-V with included payment of $XXXX made payable to United States Treasury by April 15, 2025. Although the date is incorrect because TT does not update these dates when an extension is filed THROUGH TT, I made payment through EFTPS.   This is different from 2023 filing instructions which did not have a 'what you need to mail' section, and payment was electronically withdrawn by IRS.   Since penalty was based on date of filing, I wanted to be sure to make payment same date, 10/2.   As you can deduce, IRS also withdrew same amount from account. Now I am in overdraft - fees, etc.   Anyone have any idea how to retrieve duplicate payment other than to call [phone number removed] which is useless. Shortcuts don't work anymore because IRS changes their VM trees daily.

This policy will drive away customers.  Me included.   Microsoft is offering a windows 10 security extension for another year.  At $30 this is far less than investing in a new Windows 11 machine, when we all know that Windows 12 will be out soon.  Simply check that Windows security updates are still being installed after 10-14-2025, and then allow the download of TT Desktop 2025. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/extended-security-updates   Dave
