A friend of mine's secondary home (House A) had a fire in Feb 2025 because of aged electrical wiring. House A was more than 100 years old. It was purchased about 10 years ago with a basis of about 50K (no major improvement) and it was their primary residence until late 2023 when they bought their current primary residence (House B). Two weeks after they filed claim, insurance company cut them a check for150K for the damage. My friend bought another House C for $80K (part of insurance proceed).  Insurance company is willing to pay $8K more if my friend demolish the house, but they did not do it as it costs more than $8K to demolish a house. And my friend sold the damaged House A to a contractor for 4K. How is insurance procced and sale of house be reported on 2025 tax return? Is it basically my friend sold house A for 154K with a basis of 50K and they still qualify for section 121 exclusion because they lived them for 2 years out of 5 years? Thank you.
Underpayment penalty depends on several factors, one of which is the tax being paid on time quarterly. TurboTax has no way of knowing how the user wants to calculate the penalty.
And it is for each spouse.  So if you have a low amount on 1040 line 6b you might have answered wrong for 1 person.

The problem has nothing to do with TurboTax. You have to change the theme back to what it was before. Ask your granddaughters to change it back. The downloaded copy might actually be okay. It might only be white on black on your computer or device. Try printing one page on paper and see if it prints okay. Or send it to someone else and ask them if it looks normal.

There is a new question this year asking if you lived in a foreign place.  People have been answering it wrong or skipping it.  Go back through the Social Security entries.     You can go back into your tax return but be very careful not to change anything.  Click on Add a State to let you back into your return.  You should see this screen after you enter your Social Security and hit Continue.  What is checked Yes or No?

Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.   Important! Mail Federal and State in separate envelopes and mail each year in separate envelopes.
Is the letter from the Virginia Department of Taxation, or from another department? Does it specifically reference your Virginia tax return?

This not a question, just a statement to be cautious and double check to be sure TT calculated tax on Social Security benefits.  I didn't and was expecting a return,  but IRS discovered an error in TT calculated tax on SS benefits and I now owe IRS.  In checking the SS Benefits Worksheet, the error appeared in the TT calculation on line 17 of the worksheet, (Multiply line 1 85% (0.85)).  Well, in my case the amount TT calculated on line 17 was only 26.5% instead of the full 85%.  So please be cautious and double check your tax on SS  benefits to ensure correctness,

To amend a return you did somewhere else, you would first have to fill out Turbo Tax like you are doing the original return and pay for it.  You have to recreate the actual wrong original return.  Then when it matches each line that you really filed you have to tell Turbo Tax you will mail it so it thinks it was filed.  Then you can amend it.   For prior years you have to buy the Desktop program.  You can only buy the download for prior years.  You have to buy a separate program for each year.  They only sell the last 3 years.  You need a full Windows or Mac computer to install it on.  Buy the download here      https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/   If you don't have the original Turbo Tax  .tax file you have to first recreate the actual wrong original return.  You can use the Forms Mode.  Then when it matches each line that you really filed you have to tell Turbo Tax you will mail it so it thinks it was filed.  Then you can amend it.  You will have to print and mail amended returns.

Please see the other post with a similar title.    I recently received a letter 12C with this same issue. I double checked my pdf file vs the tax forms, and everything matched.  I have sent my 1095-A form with a copy of the letter, as requested in the letter.  I am waiting on a response or processing of my return.     I wonder if there is a glitch in the processing program related to this issue?   You are not alone.

@Slongs84 wrote: The bank account info I don’t think is correct  Also, if you chose to pay any TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, the IRS sends your refund first to a temporary bank account at a third-party bank where the fees are subtracted.   Then that bank sends the rest to your bank account (or card) in a second direct deposit.   If you used that option, and if the IRS has released your refund, we can tell you more about how to check on it at the third-party company that administers that (SBTPG).
