@Leo N wrote: This is the info from IRS (which makes no distinction between a divorce and a separation): "If you're legally separated or divorced at the end of the year You must file as single for that tax year unless you're eligible to file as head of household or you remarry by the end of the year." (https://www.irs.gov/individuals/fi[product key removed]-divorce-or-separation#:~:text=If%20you're%20legally%20separated,the%20end%20of%20the%20year.) The type of "legal separation" that allows you to qualify to file as single is very rare and in practice, no one qualifies.  I have read some tax court cases on this.  Basically, you need a final order of separation, that says (1) you are separate forever, (2) can never get back together, and (3) any financial arrangements must be final.   Most separations fail test 2 and 3, because financial orders are usually considered temporary until the divorce is finalized, and modern marriage and divorce laws usually allow for the parties to reconcile, and a separation where reconciliation is legally possible (even if very unlikely) is not "final" enough under the guidance of the Tax Court.   The fact that you did not get audited for filing single last year doesn't mean it was legal or that you won't get audited in the future (the IRS has 3-6 years to audit you depending on the circumstances, and California has at least 4 years to audit you.)

Token Number  93O66313-6633O343   I believe that I have found the problem with the TurboTax’s miscalculation of Ohio uniform services Federal civil service pension deduction on the adjustment worksheet.   The formula calls for the number of years of military service divided by years of civilian employment multiplied by the Federal civil service pension attributed to military service.   The Ohio Tax Instruction booklet example of “Joe” would be: 10 divided by 30 times 90000 for an adjustment of 30000   I believe the programmer wrongly added the years of military service to the years of civilian employment before  dividing into the years of military service.    Thus 10 divided by (10 + 30) times 90000 would equal 22500 rather than rather than the correct answer of 30000.   The error in the calculation of my adjustment is exactly the same:   Pension attributable to military service = 90554  Number of years military service = 8 Number of years of civilian employment times = 34   8 divided by (8 + 34) times 90554 would equal 17248 which is what TurboTax exactly miscalculated as my deduction.   The deduction should be 8 divided by 34 times 90554 for a true deduction of 21306 which is a difference of over 4000 dollars.    I hope the programmers can quickly fix this error and push a corrected forms package to the 2024 Ohio TurboTax program and incorporate the change in all future TurboTax versions. I need this update in order to file an amended Ohio return.

@ashleybellas wrote: Hi fanfare, thanks for your reply. You state that no forms are required, but that seems to directly contradict what is written on this webpage:  https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/employment-tax-due-dates   For example, "Generally, employers must report wages, tips and other compensation paid to an employee by filing the required Form 941, Employer’s Quarterly Federal Tax Return".   Am I missing something?  In General:   If you are a business, and you have employees, then you must file either quarterly 941 or annual 944 form.  And you must have a business tax number (EIN) that is different from your social security number, and you must follow a large number of other complicated rules.   However, if you are a private person just hiring a nanny, you are not a business and you do not file form 941, and you do not pay the nanny tax to the IRS on a quarterly basis.  You file a schedule H with your tax return, that calculates and pays the nanny tax as part of your overall tax return.     However, Colorado seems to make it more complicated: While I have not taken a deep dive into Colorado's tax laws, it appears that even for a nanny (household employee), you must have a state tax withholding account and remit state tax withholding quarterly.  That in turn forces you to get a federal EIN and to file form 941 quarterly as well, and make quarterly federal payments. https://tax.colorado.gov/withholding-FAQ   Turbotax is not designed for quarterly tax payments.  That is something included in Quickbooks, if you want online help.  There are a variety of pricing options, including a Quickbooks/Turbotax bundle. However, for only one employee, it may be easier to do it yourself.  I filed payroll for a small church for about 5 years, and although I used Quickbooks for the church's books, I did not pay the extra fee for payroll services and handled it myself.  It wasn't that complicated.  https://quickbooks.intuit.com/pricing/

TurboTax Incorporated | Assisted needs to tell me if I can import the previous year info from the desktop TurboTax Business Incorporated software from last year   I am only going to consider this product if I can import these files that the desktop software saved for me...  e.g. the .GB23 file or other similar files.   As a side issue, I used to be able to purchase the TurboTax Business Incorporated Windows desktop software on the TurboTax website but now I have to purchase via Amazon and it's not "shipped yet" and I can't get started. VERY bad experience overall.

You should receive a letter from your state explaining the discrepancy. We can’t see your return.
Just to add, I was charged $454 2024 capital tax gain and it was charged as additional tax, it never got deducted. It should have zero'd out first

Did you put your 2023 T4FHSA on your 2023 and then carry forward the deduction?
Votre état civil est marié au 31 décembre 2024. Vous êtes-vous marié en 2024 ?
i did not claim anything in 2023 for FHSA and none of the FHSA amounts come from RRSPs. I tried to claim the full 16k in 2024.
