If your child's only income is SS survivors benefits, then it is not taxable no matter how much it is. If they have other income, they might owe tax, you would have to prepare a return to find out. Online returns are free to start, you only pay if you actually need to file it and don't qualify for free filing.

No. Those benefits will not be taxed and no tax return is required.

On windows or Mac? Can you open the file in the 2024 program and delete the password? And see if you have any other .tax2024 files on your computer.

Turbotax premier 2025 wants me to enter a pasword to transfer data from my 2024 tax file. I DID NOT ADDD A PASSWORD TO THE 2024 FILE WHEN IT WAS SAVED LAST YEAR. That said, you might say just uses the "forgot password" button and answer the security question to recover the password. Problem is that no security question shows. IT IS BLANK!! How can you answer a security question when it does not exist? It does not exist because that security question and its answer is input when password protection is added to the file by the user - which never happened! I can't believe that I'm the only one with this problem. Can I be more clear with the description of my issue??

Thank you. I contacted them, and while they are very nice they don't seem to have any solution other than to say they made a notation on my account. From what I've heard from others, it appears if you make ANY changes, including adding a printer or installing other programs subsequent to installing TurboTax, it will see your computer as a new one. If this is in fact true, it appears you need a computer dedicated ONLY to TurboTax.

As your "agent", you have received Constructive Receipt of the funds when your agent receives it.

I'm having the same issue with the Windows Desktop edition. Please send me instructions referenced in this thread. The same issue exists with the "State and Local Refund" section that was recently added. The "Your 2025 Income Summary" shows "Available Now" for this section. I worked through the section and successfully completed all my entries. When I returned to the Summary page it still shows "Available Now" rather than the dollar amount it should show. Please let me know your plans to fix this bug. Thanks,
