It is automatic based on the date of birth you entered in MY INFO.  It goes by your age at the end of 2025.     The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO.  You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)     2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS SINGLE $15,750  (65 or older/legally blind + $2000) MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750  (65 or older/legally blind +1600) MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500  (65 or older/legally blind + $1600) HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)     For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra  deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.   (The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)   The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e.  Turbo Tax automatically includes it. Thank you.   I will try to delete my state and re-do it.  I have 118K in wins and 118K in losses, so, I should be able to deduct the entire amount.   I have done this for many years and have never had an issue.   you are allowed to deduct up to and equal to the amount of your gambling wins.
Even though the form is available, the very critical step-by-step instructions are still unavailable as of 1/27/2026.

Yes, I understand that I don't get an additional $7500 credit in addition to the credit transferred to the dealer. However, you are required to report the credit on your tax return. Since Turbotax is incorrectly determining that I don't qualify for the credit, it is adding $7500 to the federal taxes I owe since it believes I need to repay the $7500 to the government.

BUT...you should wait for your refund, or pay the original balance due before amending....the processing of the original and it's Refund or Balance Due can't be stopped.   ANNNNND>>' The 1040X form needed for amending is not supposed to be ready until on/after 19 FEBRUARY, so you really can't file the amended return until then. So come back to start to amend.....perhaps in early March.

My husband and I purchased our home from his grandmother via land contract in Wisconsin this year. She, or rather the trust set up by her and her late husband, is acting as the lender in this land contract, so we have been making monthly payments to her with interest.  Do I need to give her a 1099INT? If yes, can I do this myself or do I need to hire someone? If no, what do I provide her instead? I was thinking a summary of the monthly payments with a breakdown of total int. and princ. in case either party can use them on our tax return.    I would really appreciate help with these questions and navigating this situation to get our taxes done correctly!  Thank you!

Once you finish your return, there is a survey and the developers do look at it and take it seriously so please fill that out. Sch C simply states IRA. In the NJ instructions, page 17 is Sch C. See here. One per IRA makes more sense. The instructions for that section send you to yet another webpage, Retirement Income.    References:  NJ DOR NJ Retirement Income Exclusions
