@ biggrizzo2003 asked: "I need a live agent." In what capacity? Do you need to speak to a representative at TurboTax Support? See contact info below. Or do you need a paid upgrade to live Expert Assist to have a tax expert help prepare your return? Or do you need help in this forum which uses a mix of volunteers and TurboTax employee experts, who are usually in the forum after approximately 7 AM Eastern? If you have a billing issue, nothing account-specific can be handled in this community forum, and you would need to speak to TurboTax Support by phone. Amen! This product has been in market for too many years to not have functional means to attach required filing supporting documentation to allow electronic filing!

And here's a tip: Once you find the *.tax2024 data file, before amending it you should make a backup copy of it, and name it something that marks it as the original. For example, something like 2024taxreturn_original.tax2024, or whatever you prefer. Then, if you mess something up when you prepare your amended return, you'll have the original unaltered tax data file to go back to. You may wish to also make a backup PDF of the original return as well, with a distinguishing name such as 2024taxreturn_original.PDF, or whatever you prefer. The PDF makes for easier viewing over the years, since it doesn't require the software. And the PDF can come in handy down the road if you lose access to the software, which could happen after 3-4 years when the license no longer works. TurboTax only supports the current year and the last 3 product years. NOTE: Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc. Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

No one in a user community forum can predict that. The IRS says most people who efile and choose direct deposit will get their Federal refunds within 21 days, but a significant number do not and require more processing. We don't know how long it's been since you filed, but here are something you should check: If you efiled, and if your efile return was accepted (you can check at the Tax Home), what is shown at the IRS "Where's My Refund" tracker tool? is there any message there? https://www.irs.gov/refunds If you postal mailed your return, it can take 4 weeks or longer just to show up in that tool. Did you use any add-on options that involve a third-party bank, such as the "pay fees out of refund" option, the "up to 5 days early" offer, or Refund Advance? If so, that would be an extra factor in the process.

@ amykaterichmess asked: "If my refund check was rejected from bank due to closed account, how long does it take TurboTax to send n me receive the check?" There's not a good way to know the time frame since there are too many different paths the rejected refund could take., since it also depends on how complex your refund choice was as I'll explain below. I'll assume you meant a direct deposit was rejected due to the closed account. The bank would most likely send it back to whoever sent it to the bank. Was the attempted deposit directly from the IRS, or was it from a third-party intermediary bank? A third-party bank can be involved if you chose any of these options: "pay fees out of refund", the "up to 5 days early" offer, or Refund Advance. Do you know whom the rejected direct deposit was from and whom they returned it to? The bank would probably tell you. If the IRS was the one that sent it to the bank, it will go back to the IRS. In that case, the IRS "may" send you a letter (called a CP53E) offering you a second chance by letting you correct the deposit information, and if not done, the IRS would ultimately send a check in the mail to the address on the return. If a third-party bank was the one that sent the funds to the bank, then the bank would likely send the funds back to that third-party bank, which would then usually send you a check in the mail to the address on the return. However, in some instances, the third-party bank sends it back to the IRS to let the IRS handle it. For example, IF you paid any fees out of your Federal refund, that is usually handled by a company SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group) which is a Green Dot company. And IF you used that payment method, here's the lookup tool on SBTPG's website: choose the taxpayer portal at: https://www.sbtpg.com/ Occasionally a different third-party bank is involved with that process. If you did not use that method to pay fees, then that does not apply to you.

It is now 2026 and it is still doing the same thing and the manual update is from 2 months ago so there have been more updates since then so the menu update is absolutely useless and I'm sitting here unable to submit my taxes after spending close to 10 hours on personal and business because there are so many flaws in this software that after 25 years I think I'm giving up and trying something else for 2026's taxes!

I file as a resident as TurboTax suggested because it’s been over 5 years on the F1 Visa — but I filed the return while physically being abroad; is that causing any issue?

@ duggclark wrote: where is my 2025 taxes that your email said was rejected where is my rejected tax filing i need to fix What is the rejection error code/message? Are you unable to find any evidence that you prepared a return in that account? If there's no evidence at all,and if it acts like it wants you to start one, then you may have multiple accounts. Or is there evidence you used that account for your 2025 return, but you don't know how to open the return interview back up? If so, we can tell you how to get back to the interview.
