sometimes. No one knows what's on every joint return, so no one can say with any certainty as to "usual". It depends on the numbers and treatment of items that determine your balance due or refund. every return is different.
on an amended return the original return's refund is taken into account - you should wait until the original is fully processed (you get your refund) and then amend. If you rush, the IRS might change something that makes your amended return incorrect, which can result in rejection or, worse, requiring you to amend an amended return. You would owe if you changed something that resulted in a different tax treatment, increased income, decreased deductions or credits, or a combination. This forum can't see your return so hs no way of knowing the reason. .

2025 was the first time I made estimated tax payments. For reasons that don't matter, I ended up making some payments to the penny instead of round numbers. After I entered my estimated tax payments into TurboTax, it rounded the payment figures. After submitting my returns and getting my refunds, I see now that, unlike TurboTax, the IRS and the CA FTB use the exact payment figures to calculate my refund to the penny. Given that this is apparently normal, expected, and predictable behavior by tax authorities, it seems odd that TurboTax rounds the figures instead of using the exact amounts to calculate the refund. TurboTax should use the exact figures given that the tax authorities do so. Of course, now that I know this, going forward I will only make round payments, which will avoid this issue, but this is odd on the part of TurboTax.

First review the information that you entered in the Personal Info section to make sure that you indicated that you worked in another state.
Launch TurboTax and select Personal Info
A summary screen will pop up
Select Revisit by Other state income
Make sure that you select Yes, I made money in states other than North Dakota and enter that you made money in TZ.
After you complete your federal tax return and you move to the State Taxes sections, you will only see a resident ND state return since TX doesn't have a state income tax. TurboTax will guide you through preparing the state return.

@rathnakumar85 I assume you physically mailed it yourself. TurboTax does not mail it for you. Did you use a method that has tracking? Normally you should see a mailed paper return show up in the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool between 4-6 weeks after you mailed it. https://www.irs.gov/refunds Be sure you are using the tool correctly. When using that tool, be sure to enter the correct tax year, the filing status, your SSN, and the Federal refund amount shown on your 2025 Form 1040, Line 35a. How long it takes the IRS to process a paper return is unpredictable. I would say one is lucky if it finishes processing in 6-8 weeks, but for many people it can take longer than that. The IRS website only says "6 or more weeks."

Asking where? What screen is it? Are you still preparing the return, or did you already efile and received a rejection notice? Please clarify what kind of PIN. Is it a 6-digit IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) provided by the IRS, or a 5-digit "signature ID" PIN (also known as a "Self-select PIN") used to sign the return (on a screen with today's date and one's birth date)? And are you filing as "married filing jointly?"
