You’ve hit a security checkpoint in TurboTax. While the IRS accepts e-filing with a foreign address, TurboTax sometimes flags these addresses as a billing risk or identification mismatch, which can block your e-file.   The Power of Attorney (POA) is already set up, so your mother has the legal authority to sign and file for you. The next step is to get past the software’s address check.   If TurboTax is blocking you during the "Pay" or "Register" phase:   Go to Personal Info (or My Info). Temporarily change your mailing address to your mother's U.S. address. Go to the File section. This should now allow you to pay for the software and register your account using a U.S. address that matches a U.S. credit card. Your mother may need to use her card to pay for the product.   Once you have paid and are at the final filing process,  Do not click "Transmit" yet.  Go back to Personal Info and change your address back to your Foreign Address. Ensure you select "Foreign Country" from the "Type of Address" dropdown menu.  Return to the File section. TurboTax should now "remember" that you have already paid/registered, and it should allow you to proceed to the e-file transmission with the foreign address correctly populated on your Form 1040.

Hi, I submitted my 2025 federal tax return through TurboTax. The IRS processed it and deducted a penalty for not making a tax prepayment for the first quarter. I was self employed but not working, nor did I know I was going to be working, until the middle of the year, hence no payment in April. What did I or TurboTax do wrong and how can I recover the penalty? Thanks.

IS MY 2024 STATE OR LOCAL REFUND TAXABLE?   If you used standard deduction for your 2024 tax return, you do not have to enter a state or local tax refund you received in 2025.   If you itemized deductions then your state or local refund that you claimed on the 2024 return----and received in 2025---must be entered as taxable income on your 2025 return.  If you  are not sure if you itemized for 2024, look at your 2024 Form 1040 line 12.   Do you see the standard deduction amount or something else?       2024 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS SINGLE $14,600    (65 or older/legally blind + $1950) MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY            $14,600    (65 or older/legally blind + $1550) MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $29,200    (65 or older/legally blind + $1550) HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $21,900    (65 or older/legally blind + $1950)     If you need to enter the state or local refund — go to Federal>Wages & Income>1099-Misc and Other Common Income>State and Local Tax Refunds on Form 1099G

TurboTax is leaving us hanging here. They keep giving the same bogus responses that don't work instead of fixing the actual issue. Do they not use their own software? And if they do, then do they not own stock that they have to report from a 1099-B? This is completely insane that they have left all of us hanging like this with no explanation and no resolution. Not acceptable!
