It doesn't let me not put anything.   I'm using tax act because it's actually free. I can't afford turbo tax (plus turbotax is showing a greater amount due) but this seemed like the right place to ask.   It doesn't let me not select anything though.

See if you can do it this way so TurboTax won't nag you for it:     Here's how to get back to the IP PIN interview.   Upon arrival at that section, you may see that question.  If so, you can say "no".   If you don't easily see the question, you may have to start (or revisit) the IP PIN interview to be asked again; i.e., it may ask you once you begin that IP PIN interview if you or a spouse or a dependent received one.   With your return open, click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS, then choose TOOLS. In the Tools window choose the blue button TOPIC SEARCH. On the topic search line enter the term IP PIN without quotes. In the selection list highlight IP PIN and either double-click it or click GO.

most likely if you did a Roth conversion or other IRA distribution it's needed for the calculation on Form 8606 to determine how much was taxable (ratio of your basis to the total market value determines how much was non-taxable)   5498s are not generally mailed until May so you would use year-end statements to determine the value.   Form 8606 instructions:   https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i8606.pdf Line 6 Enter the total value of all your traditional, traditional SEP, and traditional SIMPLE IRAs as of December 31, 2024, plus any outstanding rollovers. A statement should be sent to you by January 31, 2025, showing the value of each IRA on December 31, 2024

No you don't have to do inventory.  Just skip that part.  Just enter your income and expenses.   To report your self employment income you will fill out schedule C in your personal 1040 tax return and pay SE self employment Tax. You can enter Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to Premium version. Or any of the Desktop programs. But you will get the most help in the Home & Business version. How to enter income from Self Employment https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/self-employed/help/how-do-i-report-income-from-self-employment/00/26653 Where to enter business expenses https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/entering-importing/help/where-do-i-enter-my-self-employment-business-expenses-like-home-office-vehicle-mileage-and-supplies/01/27109   Self Employment tax (Scheduled SE) is automatically generated if a person has $400 or more of net profit from self-employment. You pay 15.3% SE tax on 92.35% of your Net Profit greater than $400. The 15.3% self employed SE Tax is to pay both the employer part and employee part of Social Security and Medicare. So you get social security credit for it when you retire. You do get to take off the 50% ER portion of the SE tax as an adjustment on 1040. The SE tax is already included in your tax due or reduced your refund. The SE tax is in addition to your regular income tax on the net profit.   Here is some IRS reading material…… IRS information on Self Employment https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/self-employed-individuals-tax-center IRS Guide to Business Expense Resources https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/guide-to-business-expense-resources Turbo Tax Self Employed Tax Hub https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/self-employment-taxes Turbo Tax Self Employment info https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/self-employment-taxes/beginners-tax-guide-for-the-self-employed/L2HLojrj5

For a second year in a row I'm having issues with the postal service.  Sent a return in a flat envelope by certified mail, it's now a full week and the tracking status has not moved since I dropped it off.  No scans at any hubs, nothing. Can't get any straight answers, nobody who works for the postal service seems to have any idea what's going on or how their own operations function any longer. Absolutely disgraceful, the postal service just continues to degrade, and just when I think it can't get any worse or any slower, it does... Anyone else experience tracking issues or other problems with mailing their paper return using the postal service this year??   SE

So, this is the first time I've had to file. I provide services through Rover, dog walking and drop in visits. My taxes keep being rejected because it's requiring a cost of goods sold inventory whatever. I'm really frustrated because I'm not SELLING ANY GOODS. I have no inventory.   I'm providing a service. The guide Rover provided states to use cash method for accounting but this next step of inventory is required. Selecting other is stating there's a need to submit an inventory sheet.   Obviously my taxes are late because I've been struggling to figure this out and don't have the money to pay somebody to help me. I'm ready to scream.   WHAT DO I SELECT HERE? What do I do?   I've never liked before. I'm on disability and do this to try to supplement it some. I don't earn much money period. But for the life of me I can't figure out what to out for a service and there's no goods,no inventory, nothing being sold.   Please help!
I use the edit pencil but it just says enter the IP PIN
My PIN is [PII removed].

Turbo tax Deluxe- Quebec version (English). The tax return is for a couple (husband and wife), I select print/file, then check mark the husband's name and select to print the federal and provincial income tax return.  The returns print successfully for the correct person.  I remain on the same page and check mark the wife's name and select to print the federal and provincial return.  The federal and provincial return of the husband print a second time instead of printing the wife's return.  The workaround is to exit the page, return to forms, then select print/file a second time and check mark the wife's name to print the returns.  This was also an issue with the 2023 income tax year.  The other issue is that if you select to print only the federal return, both the federal and provincial returns print.   Hope this is resolved for 2025 because I wasted a lot of paper!
Thank you! This was my issue as well.

Yes, that's the most recent wording.   The issue is when you put the dates in for the time you were in a declared combat zone, TurboTax will not allow you to submit without correcting it to be a full year to meet the "abode" definition (without consideration for supporting in a declared combat zone).  Obviously, if you set the date to a full year, it sets all of your income as foreign earned income, not just the amount that you say is foreign earned income.   You are given an option to say that you have a waiver, and you can add a note that you were in a combat zone.  However that still doesn't allow you to electronically file because it wants you to fix the dates.  Using the physical test pretty much results in the same issue.   The only option is to then file it by mail.  Which, if I'm doing that, I might as well pay a CPA to make sure I'm not spending months to do my taxes.  I spend way too much time overseas to deal with that.
If you have an IRA penalty, TurboTax may ask for that value. Be on the lookout for wrongly applied penalties due to 2024 TurboTax issues.   @burner718

Do you need to file 2023?  Sorry it's too, late to start a 2023 or prior online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS. And too late to efile 2023. To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.   If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand.  Here are some basic forms..... Here is the 2023 1040 return https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2023.pdf or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2023.pdf 2023 1040 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2023.pdf 2023 EIC and Tax Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2023.pdf Schedules 1-3 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2023.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2023.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2023.pdf Don’t forget your state. And you will have to print and mail your returns.  So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing. Then when you file for 2024 you need to enter 0 for the 2023 AGI since you are filing 2023 late.
