I've tried to follow the steps from TurboTax and I'm still unable to fix the issue. When I try to fix the issue on the app, it tells me that I can only fix it by logging on to the website. However, the website is making me file my taxes all over again and it's making me pay another set of filing fees, as if I never filed my taxes. How do I fix this?

@ sam-cwfinancial wrote: Where is last year's return? I lost everything, my computer and all my paperwork in a flood. I expected this to be in the cloud on TurboTax. I make small enough income to file for free, I'm not going to pay just to ask someone live. But it's not here. I'm using the same email address to log in as the email the order receipt was sent to. It's still in my inbox from last year. The help instructions say to go to my Documents and I can print it out or download a PDF. The only things there are my W2s. From this year and last year! This answer assumes you used Online TurboTax for your 2023 return. Have you started a 2024 online return yet? If not, that may be your problem. See the 2 scenarios I mention below. Do not use the Documents tab. That is not how to do it. The pathway to download the 2023 PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2024 return. I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation. If you have not yet started a 2024 online return: Sign in to your account. What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2024 return in that account. If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2024 return in that account. If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions. Answer those preliminary questions (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option. Do not click the Documents tab. Instead, click on Tax Home. Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents". Expand that section and choose the past year you want. If your past returns are not shown there, then you may have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. If necessary, we can tell you how to troubleshoot. If you have already started or finished a 2024 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2024 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home. If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu. Do not use the Documents tab. At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents."

@Elvin Richmond , I tried , with the latest update , windows Home & Business.
The scenario I used --- US citizen, Single, employed by a US entity ( with US address and a Foreign Base address) , employed by US entity, based in Sudan, earned 130,000 , no housing or any other employer provided benefits / funding , no COLA etc. to include.
Chose a 12 month test period of 01/01/2024 through 10/30/2024, said I have waiver, allowed me to fill out explanation of "waiver" as Combat zone declared 10/20/2024. No trips back home . Did not use FEIE priorly, established foreign home on 01/01/2024.
TurboTax accepted all my entries , allowed FEIE of 105,000 based on 304 days of presence in foreign country.
Ran checks , found error, related to employer's US address , Foreign Address etc. Digital currency questions, Foreign Bank account questions, Any distribution from a Foreign Trust/person etc. Once these fixed , TurboTax is happy.
What I did not try is to go further and see e-filing is possible.
So at this point I do not see if there is a problem or not --
Obviously, even though you are frustrated with TurboTax , as regards this issue, absent other facts, I do not believe that a tax professional ( familiar with international taxation ) would do better. But of course it is your return and your are the one on the block.
I am a volunteer here, have no financial or other interest in Intuit, TurboTax, Lacerte , Pro-Series etc. , nor have any friends/ relatives working for Intuit or its subsidiaries.
Is there more I can do for you ?

It's convoluted and confusing, at best. You're lucky I care enough to come back and update my question on your convoluted and confusing forum. There's no Delete button that I can easily see, and the answer below is completely unrelated to my original question, so No, it's not helpful to anyone asking my question I'm the future, it would only make them more confused. So I've edited my question. To this. Feel free to delete, since I can't.

How did the IRS say that? Did you speak to them, or are you referring to something you saw online? Are you referring to the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool? Does it not find your information? https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund If so, here are some tips: If you efiled, be sure you have waited at least 24 hours after acceptance before using the IRS WMR tool. If you mailed a paper return, it won't show up in the tool for at least 4 weeks or longer. Be sure you enter the correct tax year, SSN, and filing status. Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount. Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a summary screen. Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a. If the IRS WMR tool is not finding your information, you can also try phoning the IRS refund hotline, again using the figure from Form 1040, Line 35a. I've seen it work for some users when the WMR tool didn't. 800-829-1954

@ rkilroy75 wrote: Desktop TurboTax Premium software on Windows. There is a link to my file, however it has an old save date and contains no data. Here are some things to try. If the first bullet point works, then you're luckily finished. Using Explorer, look specifically in the Documents\TurboTax folder, which is the default location for the *.tax2024 data files, although one can choose to save them anywhere. Search your entire computer system for any file ending in *.tax2024 and also look in the Recycle Bin. If you have more than one Windows user account (like an Admin account and user accounts), log into each one and do those searches again within each user account. I remember a user who said his ended up on the Admin account side, so his searches in his regular user account didn't find it. If you have both types of accounts look in the Documents\TurboTax folder in each and if necessary, do a complete file search in each, including looking in the Recycle Bin. If you use Windows OneDrive, or other backups, also look there. I recall a user one year saying his had ended up mysteriously in OneDrive. In your search if you run across a file with a tilde, such as ~*.tax2024, that is a temporary file that can sometimes be helpful in recovery if the actual data file is not found. If you find the *.tax2024 data file, make note of its location. Then launch your TurboTax program, and at the main landing page go to the top TurboTax menubar and click on FILE in the menubar's upper left corner. In the dropdown menu choose OPEN TAX RETURN, then point TurboTax to the location of the file.

@rlfrongillo was the payment electronic or a paper check? if a paper check give it time. If you had it debited from your efiled tax return, I'd still give it another week. The filing deadline for both federal and SC State is May 1 (due to Hurricane Helene), so I would wait at least a week before tracking it down. It's not late.

@LivePAWorkNY what the others meant was to complete the NY return before completing the PA return - that way the correct credit will be placed on the PA return. You can file them at the same time.

@ashcrafteloe asked: "My gambling winnings i was issued a W-2G . i filled the forms out correctly and its been Rejected twice saying the EIN number is wrong . There is no EIN number for a W-2G." On your W-2G it may be called "Payer's TIN", or perhaps Payer's Federal ID number. Often a Payer's TIN, EIN, Federal ID number refer to the same thing. Or is there no TIN/EIN/Federal tax ID number at all for the Payer on the W-2G? If that's the case, you can phone the casino business office and ask for it. The Payer's phone number may be on the W-2G. Here's more info on that rejection: https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/e-file-rejection-error-fw2g-502-form-w-2g-payer-e/L4Ra9iyDZ_US_en_US

Preparing one state is free but eFile is not. You can print and mail the state to save the eFile fees.
