@Esnedden I'm sorry you had that difficulty. One possibility is if you used any LIVE products, or any other add-ons. Did you happen to end up in Live TurboTax by mistake? There's another tricky step that messes up some military discount filers, which is this one: On a screen after you enter the W-2 from DFAS, you will ultimately see a screen that ask something like "Let's check for uncommon situations" or "Does your W-2 have any of these uncommon situations?" or words to that effect. It shows maybe 10-11 things with check boxes. Folks have to be sure to again indicate there that you are "active duty military." I don't know why the program asks you twice to indicate "active duty", but it must be checked again there. Did you end up paying for it? If so, and if you can't get help from TurboTax Support, you can escalate to the liaison in the office of the president of Intuit to see if they will do anything. They say they will respond to you in about 1 business day. Here's the contact form: https://www.intuit.com/company/contact/office-of-the-president/

Yes. State of residency does not affect your filing status. You can still file jointly on your federal return.

Thanks, I’m still waiting on my call back. Did you file successfully with this method? Or is the review error not letting you? I also don’t want the IRS to reject either. I’m beyond frustrated!

The Easy Extension takes you online to file the extension, so it doesn't count as a 'filing' from your desktop program.

Yes, if you both have separate TurboTax accounts.
The extension gives you until October 15, 2025 to file your taxes without getting a failure to file penalty. You don't get extra time to pay your taxes so you must pay any taxes that you may have that are due by April 15, 2025 so you won't be assessed the failure to pay penalty.
Refer to the TurboTax Help article How do I file an IRS tax extension?. If you need to file a state extension, review the article How do I file an extension for my personal state taxes?

I had a situation where a portion a of a JTWROS 1099-DIV was filed with my deceased mother's taxes. I'm using a nominee statement to clarify which part of the 1099-DIV I am responsible for sine I held the account almost 4 months in 2024.

It is happening in 3 different states that you are trying to file? Did you file your fed already? If not, another suggestion maybe... Go through your federal return again. Maybe something there is affecting the states. Sometimes things that are allowed to pass in fed won't fly in states. After you run through fed, run through one of your states and then try to send that state (instead of trying all of the states just to find out that won't work).

You still don't understand the question. When you arrive at the TT page for filing it asks a series of questions in order to proceed. WHICH ONE DO I SELECT? How can I file the return FIRST without selecting an option. There is no: file now, pay later option. Thanks for your help . . . but you are a little late considering today is "tax day". I already opted to choose create a payment plan and moved forward with that. Merry Christmas!
