Hmm should it be Estimated Tax ? I think that is for quarterly payments no? The help section seem to say to use Deductions and Credits -> Estimates and Other Taxes Paid -> Income Taxes

There are over a dozen kinds of 1099. What is your 1099? 1099R , 1099G 1099NEC 1099-INT 1099-DIV. 1099B etc.

@dephi I have also encountered your exact situation with turbotax refusing to file both Form 40 and 40NR. Unfortunately, the only option appears to be to print your AL forms and mail them in. If you have already e-filed form 40, but you are certain you did so correctly, only including income and deductions from during the period of residency, then I believe all you should need to do is mail in an accompanying form 40NR as an amendment to the following address:
Alabama Department of Revenue, P O Box 327469, Montgomery, AL 36132-7469 in that one ensuring you only include income and deductions from during the period of nonresidency. I am not an accountant so I would recommend still doing your due diligence, but I have done extensive research on this exact situation for myself and this is what I did and would recommend. I realize a good amount of time has passed since your comment, so I would also appreciate if you would be able to share if you did the above or anything different and if it worked. Thanks!

On the Federal return, the Form 1095-A questionnaire is under Medical in Deductions & Credits.
If you are working on a California state return, the Health Insurance Penalty interview is in the Credits and Taxes section.
You can obtain your Electronic Confirmation Number (ECN) from HealthCare.Gov.

I just paid $200 to file Fed/State income tax with Turbo tax like I've done for decades, and I had a question on how a number in the filing was calculated (no detail of calculation anywhere). I called the number to "Speak with a Tax Expert" and after a half hour I had spoken with 2 people and been on hold a few times only to find out they had me with customer service. They had no idea about the taxes. I've been on the call for another half hour after being transferred to a "tax analyst" and she has no idea. All three people I've spoken to, it's really hard to understand what they are saying due to a) the connection b) really unclear pronunciation of words c) a manager was typing loudly over our conversation. The person I'm speaking with now is very nice, but I have to ask her to repeat every question and she has no idea how to answer the question. I'm going to an accountant from now on, this would be a five minute question/answer.

This means that the payment made on the IRS website will automatically show up in the correct place inside TurboTax after a few days?

If you did not make estimated payments, you can enter zero OR just continue and leave it blank. If this does not work, please post again here.

The 1095-A is for Marketplace ("Obamacare") insurance. Since you did not have that type of insurance reported on a 1095-B, you shouldn't complete the 1095-A section at all.

No, that amount cannot be flagged as an after-tax contribution. The penalty is that it will be taxed twice. There isn't a workaround for that as it's by design.

This is happening to me, how do I break it out and add the 1099 in my state return? Turbotax is only flagging the issue, there is no way to fix it.

Hi, Thank you for responding. May I ask if I put zero. Will it matter if on the W2 they put an amount in line 16 for wages? I understand the allocation part but I want to make sure since they put an amount for wages, as I don't want to raise any red flags on the federal filing. THANK YOU!!!!!! You are very appreciated!

Do you have a qualifying dependent? If not, you have to remove your spouse and file as Single in 2024. I'm sorry for your loss.
Taxpayers can claim the qualifying surviving spouse filing status if all of the following conditions are met:
You were entitled to file a joint return with your spouse for the year your spouse died (2023).
Have had a spouse who died in either of the two prior years. You must not remarry before the end of the current tax year.
Have a child, stepchild, or adopted child who qualifies as your dependent for the year or would qualify as your dependent except that the child does not meet the gross income test, or does not meet the joint return test, or except that you may be claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer. You live with this child in your home all year, except for temporary absences.
Live with this child in the taxpayer’s home all year, except for temporary absences.
