I finally got clarification.  The $40 refund processing fee was only if you wanted to deduct the state e-file charges from your federal tax refund then they would charge another $40 to process that transaction.  So if you say you’ll pay the state e-file charges with a credit card, then there’s no $40 processing fee.  It wasn’t clear to me and wasn’t explained that way in Turbo Tax.  But once you say you’ll pay the state e-file charges with a credit card, the system will let you proceed.
Is it possible to import a single K1 from last year into this 2024 Turbo Tax?

There is always an extra fee if you want refund processing.  Nothing has changed.   With the desktop version, installed on your own computer (from a CD or download) you have already paid the basic fee to use the program.  However, there are several optional fees you might encounter.  For example, if you purchase the Deluxe version and want to upgrade to Premium or Home and Business, there is a fee.  There is a fee for Audit Defense.  And there is always an extra fee to e-file a state return.   You can choose to pay these extra fees with a credit card and that's the end of it.  Or, you can choose to have the extra fees deducted from your refund, but that always involves an extra fee for that service.     The simple answer is to no agree to any optional services, and to either mail your state tax return or pay the state e-filing fee with a credit card.

The rejection came from the IRS, so this means the database for the IRS was likely updated between when you originally filed and now.  Although they have your other form, the fact that you are amending a return for a deceased person may be causing a glitch in their system with accepting it.  You will need to print and mail the amended return. If you select print and mail, you will have the instructions and address as to where to mail the 1040X.

I am doing taxes for my parents.  I filed their federal return back in March, it was accepted, and everything was fine.  However, they received new information, and I had to amend their original return.  I e-filed the amended return and received a message from Turbo Tax that the amended return was rejected.  Later I received a message saying that it had something to do with the fact that the primary tax payer's number showed the individual was deceased.   My father died on December 29th, so when I filed the original return, I marked that he was deceased.  I didn't change anything on the amended return other than one number. The message from Turbo Tax said the software would walk me through how to correct the return so I could refile it.  However, when I click on the review again message, nothing happens at all; no window opens and it doesn't return me to a review.  When I manually click on the review tab near the top of the window it says everything is 100% correct on the federal and state amendment.  I have no idea what I need to correct to refile the amended return and the Turbo Tax Deluxe software isn't helping at all.   Any help that someone could provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Christy

I agree with Jjjama – no one is providing a good answer: “I have used Turbo Tax Premier for many years, filed many tax returns and never came across this problem before.  This is the first year that it didn’t come with a CD so after purchasing I had to download the program using the special pass code.  When it came to finally e-filing the federal tax return and specifying to direct deposit the tax refund, it’s asking how I want to pay for the $40 refund processing fee.  Federal e-filing is free but this is the first year I’ve come across having to pay for a refund processing fee.  It won’t let me proceed beyond that so the only way to not pay this fee is to mail in my tax return and still have the refund direct deposited into my bank account.  My question is why is there this $40 refund processing fee that I never had to pay before?” I was outraged to have to pay a processing fee to get my refund. I also have used Turbo Tax Premier for years. Federal e-filing is free. The only option to get the refund was direct deposit with a fee, or have the government mail me a check which was many weeks (and with the state of things right now that felt like a risk). The fee was supposed to be $40. I just got my refund of 3322.00 and my direct deposit was 3254.94 – so $67.06 in fees. Why? Everyone keeps talking about paying the state filing fee with a credit card to avoid the fee – this has nothing to do with my state return, this is my federal return, the only option was direct deposit with an (apparently) $67.06 fee, or get mailed a check in many weeks. This is new. Why?

@jfish1985 You are posting to a thread with posts from multiple users so we are not sure what the context is for your post.   However, you say you do not "recall" agreeing to something after "already paying TurboTax..."   How did you pay TurboTax?  Did you pay your fees with a credit or debit card before you e-filed?   Or did you choose to pay your software fees by having them deducted from your federal refund?   If you chose to pay the fees from your federal refund you also agreed to pay a "refund processing fee" of $40 ($45 in CA).   How can I see my TurboTax  fees?    https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k   What is Refund Processing Service?

There is confusion here.   If you want to file today (May 1), just file.  The IRS will apply your extension automatically based on your address.  Don't worry if turbotax thinks you are late.    If you want to request a further extension to October 15, you must mail a copy of form 4868 requesting an extension, and it must be postmarked today.  You may want to use a mail service that includes proof of mailing and proof of delivery.  (Turbotax can't process an electronic request for extension after April 15, but the IRS will give it to you based on your address if you apply by mail.)

I know that many times, the support team does not get the thanks they deserve. I was on the phone with a gentleman from support and was amazed at his knowledge. His name was Doug and he works in your support team. he was great and even taught me things about the computer that I did not know. he really know what he was doing and made me feel very comfortable working with him. He made sure that everything was working right with each step. I am retired division manager and if I had an employee like that, that would have made my job so much easier. thank you for all your help Doug. You are a great asset to your company. In turbotax, you had the options of "pay by myself (check or other)", or "pay from a credit card" or "pay from a bank account."  If you aren't sure what you picked, download, view or print your tax return file.  The first page of the federal return and the first page of your state return has instructions regarding payment, if you need to make a payment.     If you selected credit card or bank account, that charge should be processed within a couple of days of filing.   If you selected you would pay yourself, by mail or other, you need to make your own payment.  Easiest is to go to www.irs.gov/payments.  Also check to see if you need to make a tax payment to your state.
I don't recall agreeing to another company stealing my refund after already paying TurboTax to file

If you move due to a listed "hardship" you can use a partial exclusion.  Since you need to have lived there 24 months to get the full exclusion, if you sell in 8 months, you qualify for 8/24th the normal exclusion, which is $83,333 if filing single or $166,666 if filing married filing jointly.  (Roughly speaking.  The exact percentage is determined by the number of days you owned the home, or the number of days since you last used the exclusion, whichever is shorter.) Any gain over that is taxable.     Your basis appears to be 285K plus 20K =305K.  So how much gain you have will depend on the selling price.   You can also adjust your gain by certain expenses of buying and selling, see publication 523. https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-publication-523
