Are you using Online TurboTax? If so, this answer is for Online TurboTax. If you're using desktop software installed on your computer, report back for instructions. Online TurboTax can prepare only 1 Federal return per online account per year. To prepare a second return requires a different separate account (different User ID). You can use the same email address in the Account Settings for notification purposes in up to 5 accounts, if desired, but each log-in User ID must be unique. Do NOT try to prepare a second return in the same account, or it will overwrite the first one. For future reference, desktop editions can prepare multiple Federal returns with up to 5 Federal efiles.

I just added each share as a 20 dollar cash on the misc form. I actually attached it to each crypto I had on celsius. Whatever the percentage was we got back in stock. I added that percentage to each crypto I lost in celsius as reimbursement. That way it allowed me to take loss from the crypto I didn't receive back. For example, I had some btc that was lost. I showed that as a transfer from celsius to venmo as having received a certain amount of btc and also having received a certain amount of cash (as stock).

Thanks you again for providing additional input steps. I must confess, my level of frustration with the 2024 Turbotax Premier for Windows software package has reached an absolute fever pitch. I have tried to follow all of the detailed instructions you have kindly provided including Form 8824 which records a valid like kind exchange under Sec. 1031 rules. No matter what I do the program continues to show in Form 1040 that I must pay capital gains tax (it is not being deferred due to the like kind exchange) on the sale of the first property and on top of that is adding a severe penalty for under withholding during the year. Because of other business losses (not related to Schedule E rental properties) and very low W2 income reported along with a bit of capital gains / dividends and interest income, the impact of what Turbotax is erroneously showing me right now is a swing of about $83,000 in my tax liability for 2024 !!! If the program were treating the like kind exchange properly I should be receiving back a large percentage of the $9,800 in the federal taxes withheld during 2024. Instead Turbotax has decided I should pay the Feds a little over $73,000 !!! UNREAL !!! What makes this even more frustrating is that I have been a loyal user of the PC based version of Turbotax since the mid-1980's when it was still a DOS based program. How many folks can say that ??? Never ever had an issue with any of the versions I have purchased and used each year over the last 40 years. 2024 is unfortunately a very different story so far. Since there is absolutely NO phone number I can find on the website to call at Intuit about support the only way I can think to try to resolve this situation before April 15th is to provide an expert at Intuit / Turbotax access to my 2024 Turbotax file to see what I'm doing wrong or to verify that the program is indeed flawed. Please let me know ASAP, this is a potentially very costly problem. Without resolution ASAP I will be forced to file an extension so the Gov't gets to keep my over withheld funds even longer and I would either have to prepare everything by hand or pay a CPA to do it while getting zero use out of Turbotax. VERY FRUSTRATING......Thanks in advance for your help.

Although I was massively over-withheld for the first half of the year, I fell behind in the 3rd and 4th quarter and ended up getting hit with a big late penalty. I was able to lower it somewhat by using the actual payments rather than the deemed equal installments but it is still pretty large. I noticted that over half of the penalty was being generated by the 4th quarter underpayment which Turbo tax seems to default to being paid when the return is due on 4/15/25 (90 days at 7%). However, I ended up getting laid off at the end of the year and received a severance package in late January which included a large amount of tax withheld - Way more than the amount of my underpayment. Unfortunately, the payment wasn't made until January 17 (after the 1/15/25 due date for the 4th quarter) so it is not reflected on the Form 2210 which only picks up payments through the due date. I realize the January withholding is supposed to be for the severance payment, but shouldn't the payment be applied to the prior taxes that were due for 2024 first? That would result in my underpayment only being 2 days late rather than 90 days late. I know that could leave me underpaid for 2025, but there is still a lot of time left in the year and as long as I meet the safe harbor by the end of the year, it shouldn't matter. Is there any way to address this in Turbotax? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the exact same problem when I tried to amend my tax, initial e-filing failed because the software needs to update, and then after updating, only state was e-filed successfully, federal seems to be stuck in the transmission trouble. I tried multiple things and it doesn't work. it seems the software thinks we have transmitted both federal and state amended, but the federal one failed.

This is my reply to MesquiteBean. Thanks so much. I followed your advice in the first paragraph. I went ahead with selecting to pay with a credit card when I got to the screen that asked "How would you like to pay?" and showed the last line "$45 TurboTax Premium Service Applies". I selected Pay With Credit Card. The following screens asked for credit card info but showed no $45 charge in the Total in the final screen. Phew! Thanks again. Sorry. My Opera browser didn't let me paste the screenshot here.

I did, they ask a few questions from your W-2 and they can then import your total W-2 information into Turbo Tax.
