No.  The IRS fixed it for you.  Some of your Social Security is now taxable .   So your refund is less.   The IRS is right.

Also At the end Turbo Tax just shows you the net federal and state combined. But that is only for your info. You will still get the full refund and you need to pay a tax due.  Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the state cover sheet with the Turbotax logo.  If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay.  Read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps.
But it's wrong.  We've never traveled out of the US.  Can I file an amendment?
Nothing you can do.  The IRS corrected your return.  Sorry your refund is less.

Lukester1980, thanks for the timeline on sending in your 709 n then the red flagging by irs. As a widower I only have my return which simplifies somewhat  the complex web of the 709, prior years I could have split the gift between  spouse n myself and been under the reporting requirement so no reporting needed. In many ways a flat tax would be more efficient, less cumbersome for citizens paying their share , and minimize tax evaders but it would have issues as well, and reducing the irs footprint and thin out tax payers burden by subsidizing fewer irs government employees. Won’t happen in my remaining years and likely the entire system will go officially bankrupt from our politicians overspending us into oblivion  but that has a high likelihood in my remaining years. Good luck, seems like your in the homestretch to finalizing the fun 🥴

No, TurboTax doesn't have any information regarding your refund once it's filed. Some reasons why your refund is lower than the amount on your tax return:   The IRS may have applied part of your refund to other debts you may have, such as child support, student loans, spousal support, or other state debt. The IRS found a mistake in your tax return.  Refer to the IRS article Topic no. 203, Reduced refund for information,   @stovershome

No.   TurboTax never gets information from the IRS after you file your tax return, so no one at TT knows that the IRS reduced your refund or why.  The IRS will mail you a letter in several weeks to explain their reason.   It might be that you owed back taxes or child support and the IRS seized your refund to pay that debt; it might be that the IRS found a mistake you made and when they corrected the mistake it reduced your refund.  Wait for the letter.
The IRS will send you a letter explaining why they reduced your refund. It might take two or three weeks for you to get the letter.

You misunderstood.   You cannot pay your state tax due from your federal refund.  The only thing you can choose to pay with your federal refund is the fee for using TurboTax to prepare your tax returns.  If you choose to do that, you will pay an extra "refund processing fee" of $40 ($45 in CA).   If you make that choice, your federal refund goes first to a third party bank.  The bank takes out your software fees and pays TurboTax, keeps the $40 for itself, and then sends the rest of the refund to you.  To avoid the $40 fee and the involvement of the third party bank, you need to pay your TurboTax fees upfront using a credit or debit card before you e-file.   REMOVE REFUND PROCESSING FEE   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/remove-pay-refund-fees-turbotax-online-change/L7UxC6ZZp_US_en_US?uid=m6r4xelq     And----if you owe tax due to the state:   You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment.  For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0
Form 5329 has to be filed with your tax return for the year that you should have taken the RMD. File an amended return for 2024 to add Form 5329 to your 2024 tax return.
I used Turbo Tax to do my taxes and thought I would get over $3600 back by the program.  The IRS made adjustment so it will be less than $400 and I don't know why.  Can you help?
OK, so the question - U.S. citizen living abroad in one of these countries is answered incorrectly, "yes".  How do I get this fixed?
Enter your W-2 manually. It only takes a couple of minutes. It will take a lot less time and effort than trying to figure out why the photo isn't working.

see similar thread on this topic below, TT calculates underpayment using Form 2210 based on the information it's been given - any difference or adjustment to 2023 tax/AGI, either carried over from your 2023 return or input under Other Tax Situations / Underpayment Penalty, could affect the minimum safe harbor amount you needed to pay; or dates on estimated/final payments will affect penalty calculation etc.  IRS calculates it based on information in their system.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/re-the-amount-you-owe-formula-on-1040-line-37/01/3674963#M1359163
