They might tell agents not to escalute during last few days before April 15. Good that you were able to file and no not suggesting calling back.

@camino wrote: transfering in pdf 2023 into my downloaded 2024 return. I thought I did already, but the prior info is not showing up. I am not using the online version. I am using a different computer this year. I sent a pdf file of 2023 to myself. I thought I had imported the info to my new return, but it is not showing up. I am not using the online version. Is it still possible to import? You said: "I sent a pdf file of 2023 to myself" Does that mean you emailed it? If so, be aware that it is not secure to email tax files--PDFs or tax data files. Those files are too sensitive for ordinary email. They have banking information, SSN, all sorts of things. You can use a thumb drive or writeable CD to move the tax data file to your new computer. I presume that by "downloaded 2024 return" you mean you are using the desktop software. You can only transfer prior-year 2023 data at the start of a new return. You can't transfer-in data into an already-started return. You'd have to start a new return to transfer-in data. You need to be transferring in from the *.tax2023 data file. Using the 2023 PDF is not recommended, and as you experienced, may not work. Even when a 2023 PDF file works, it's only minimal info that transfers in, such as bio, and a few basic things.

Received 1099-misc with box 2 "royalties" and box 3 "other income". Box 2, no problem. However, Box 3 was for a Pipeline Easement. This should be a capital gain. The gain is much greater than my basis. How do I move 1099-misc box 3 "other income" to schedule D so it will be taxed at the long-term gain rate.

If you're copying and pasting, it may include a space before or after. Make sure you are only pasting the numbers or removing the spaces after pasting.

In regard to the 6-digit email verification code during the filing process: When you go to get the code from your email, you have to leave the screen open that asks for the code. If you close the interface, the code will be seen as expired or not valid. You have to use a different browser tab, or a different window, or a different browser, or your phone to check your email and get the code.

How did you get TurboTax to ask you if you wanted to make a capital gain election? I am trying to get to that option, but I can't find it. I have a large foreign capital gain that I want treated as investment income. The overall taxes are less if I enter it as interest income, but that is not correct.

@ mxkieran wrote: US citizens living abroad must file US taxes. Are you saying they can't use TurboTax? This thread is over 5 years old since anyone posted in it. You'd be better-served to start your own new thread, so it will show up as a new issue to the forum, who can answer questions you have about US citizens using TurboTax from abroad. To do that go the link below: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/forums/postpage/board-id/202 Use the top box there to summarize the title of your issue. Then there is a box below that with more room for details, if needed. This is a public Internet forum, so don't post any personal info..
