I earned about $500 as an InstaCart shopper and did not get a 1099-NEC since it was under $600. Following the instructions I never get to where I would record 'Other self-employed income' sine TurboTax stops as soon as I select 'did not get a 1099-NEC' and the section for Miscellaneous Income doesn't seem to apply either. Step-by-Step Instructions Locate Income Section: Open your return in TurboTax and navigate to Wages & Income. Find Self-Employment: Select "Self-Employment income and expenses" and start this section. Enter 1099-NEC: If you received a 1099-NEC from Instacart, enter the details exactly as shown. Enter Income without 1099: If you earned less than $600 or didn't receive a 1099, select "Other self-employed income" to report your gross earnings. Enter Expenses: Deduct business expenses to lower your net profit, such as: Mileage (highest deduction for most). Insulated bags/supplies. Phone/data charges (partially).

NOTE: Are you by any chance using any ad blockers or script blockers? If so, that may be blocking the Captcha. Otherwise, here's how to troubleshoot: First, simply refresh the page in your browser and see if that changes anything. If not, then log out of TurboTax, and clear your browser Internet cache. Then close the browser and reopen it. Make sure cookies are allowed/enabled in your browser settings so the Captcha will appear. Log in and try again. If still unsuccessful, close browser and reopen using a private window/private browsing (aka "incognito mode"). Log in with the private window (again making sure cookies are allowed) and try the efile again. Or if still a problem after all that, see if trying a different browser (with cookies allowed) will solve it.

The new 2025 tax law exempted overtime pay (limited in amount) from taxable income. The overtime pay can normally be found in box 14. Some companies have not entered the overtime pay in box 14 and just have some memo entry. If you have overtime pay not reported in box 14, you have to find where to report that information in Turbo Tax in other situations, etc. to be able to not have your overtime pay taxed. Some states, like Illinois, do not follow the new law and tax overtime pay. Even though you put overtime pay deduction into Turbo Tax for Federal tax purposes, that taxable income reduction does not automatically carryover to the Illinois tax return. Therefore, you most likely have to put the add back in manually and not rely on Turbo Tax taking care of the overtime add back.

You can't directly deduct your grandchild's college tuition and expenses as a personal deduction. However, these qualified education expenses may allow the grandchild or the parent to claim education tax credits such as the American Opportunity Tax Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit, depending on who claims the grandchild as a dependent on their tax return. Additionally, if you pay the tuition directly to the educational institution, these payments aren't subject to gift tax. For claiming education credits, the key is who claims the grandchild as a dependent. If you don't claim them, the grandchild or their parents may be eligible to claim credits based on those expenses.
If your grandchild is your dependent, you potentially can claim education-related tax credits like the American Opportunity Tax Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit for qualified tuition and expenses you pay. These credits apply to higher education expenses paid for a dependent student listed on your tax return. The American Opportunity Credit offers up to $2,500 per student, while the Lifetime Learning Credit can reduce taxes up to $2,000.

The third-party short-term disability payments you received during your family and medical leave (FMLA) in 2025 are generally considered taxable income if your employer paid for the premiums.
You will enter these in TurboTax by entering your Form W-2 as it is reported to you. (You may have received a Form 1099-MISC. If you did you would report that under other common income). TurboTax will properly determine the taxability based on your entries.
You likely received a W-2 from the third-party insurance vendor for the FMLA and not your regular employer. You will enter this form W-2 into TurboTax. In Box 13, "Third-Party Sick Pay" should be checked. If the your W-2 shows taxable income in Box 1, it is taxable. If Box 1 is $0 or blank and only Box 12 shows Code J, then the payments are usually not taxable.
It is not the same as Paid Family leave.

No. There is no longer an actual tuition deduction, but there is a tax credit. Only the parson who claims the student as a dependent can claim the tuition credit (including the student herself if she is not a dependent, with some limitations).
However the person who does claim the student, as a dependent (usually the parent), may claim the money you paid when calculating the credit.
Although the general rule, in taxes, is that you must be the one making the payment, to get the deduction or credit, there is an exception for education.
