What happens if I make a mistake as I rush to finish and file?

Why are you rushing?   You can e-file up to October 15.    If you make a mistake and file an incorrect tax return, then you will have to wait for the IRS to process the return completely and then amend the return.  Better to slow down and do it correctly the first time around.
