Residential Clean Energy Credit eligibility

Are expenditures toward a solar electric system installed on a recreational vehicle (RV/motorhome) eligible for Residential Clean Energy Property Credit?  Motorhome is equipped with all residential amenities.

No.  The credits are not available for homes not used as a residence by the taxpayer.  And, while it has all of the amenities of a home, it doesn't qualify as a home.

Here's some IRS stuff on that.

Does it qualify as a second home, which according to your IRS reference is eligible?  Furthermore your answer is in contradiction to that by Vanessa A to a similar question by horakta.  Which is correct?

If you do use the RV as a second home, then yes, it would qualify for the solar credit.

If the RV is not used as a second home, then you cannot take the credit.  Meaning, if you are renting it out, you would not be able to use it as a second home.  But, if you travel or use it as a vacation home, then you would be able to claim the credit.

Just confirming the last sentence in your reply.  Solar electric expenditures do qualify if the RV is used as a vacation home?

Yes, if it is a second home it qualifies.
