Problem with Amended Taxes and Taxes Applied to Next Year

I overpaid Federal taxes by 57k in 2023, applying 50K to next years taxes and refunding 7k. I realized I made a mistake, amended the taxes and owed 18k more. Now Turbotax is showing 39k in taxes applied to next year and asking for 18K more. It is essentially double counting my 18K in additional taxes. How do I fix this or is this just a bug?

Make sure you go in to the section where you tell the program you want/don't want to apply refunds to next year and change what you had stated in the original filing.  Just amending the substance of the return will not automatically change this so it sounds like TurboTax thinks you are $18k short to make your original designations work.   Here's a link to an article about how to get back to that section in case you need it:

Problem with Amended Taxes and Taxes Applied to Next Year

Hello Debaser8!

When you filled out the original return, you entered the amount to be applied to next year's taxes. Please go back to that section and remove the amount to be applied. This should remove the doubling you described.

Thank you!
