How do I apply my refund to next year's (2024) taxes?

SOLVEDby TurboTax2607Updated 6 days ago

You can apply some or all of your2023 tax refund to next year's taxes. When you come back to file your taxes in 2025, the amount you applied will show up as a credit.

Tip: If you pay quarterly estimated taxes, apply a portion of your refund to next year's first-quarter estimated tax payment, which is due April 18. This can help prevent underpayment penalties on next year's return.

Select your product and follow the instructions.

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Open or continue to your return, if you don't already have it open.
  3. Select Search, enter apply federal refund to next year and select Jump to apply federal refund to next year.
    • Or go to Other Tax Situations, and select Start next to Apply Refund to Next Year under Additional Tax Payments.
  4. Follow the instructions on the Apply Refund to 2024 Taxes screen.
