I live 8 hours away from my STR. I need to check on it periodically. It requires me blocking out 4 nights. Does this count as personal days used?

I have to travel eight hours. one way. from Jacksonville, FL to North Georgia to check on my STR. It takes me 4 days-1 day up, 1 day back and 2 days on site.  I have to restock supplies, check to how the cleaner is performing as well as address any maintenance issues.  I read that there was an IRS provision, I think, that those times when you are there for the management of your property are allowed and not counted toward the personal use of your home.  Is that correct?  If I would only travel for the reason of checking on and maintaining my property, then it would put me over the number of personal days allowed. If is allowed by the IRS, then how many times, or days, am I allowed?

You are allowed personal use of your property for the smaller of 14 days or 10% of the total days rented.

But in your case these are not personal days where you are staying in the property.  As you point out these are days that you are using for maintenance issues.  They do not have to be counted for personal use especially if the property was available for rent on those days but you used it for maintenance because no one rented it.
