1099 and W-2

Hi! If I switch from 1099 to W-2 and still maintain a home office, am I able to deduct office space, equipment, etc still?

Also, my AGI is significantly higher than what my income was. When calculating my quarterly tax payments, (using several methods) gave me payments that resulted anywhere from 5-50% of my total income. Is 30% federal and 10% state (dual states) a good rule of thumb?

Sorry---W-2 employees cannot deduct job-related expenses on a federal return.  Job-related expenses were eliminated as a federal deduction for W-2 employees by the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond.  Your state tax laws might be different in AL, AR, CA, HI, MN, NY or PA.

If you live in a state that lets you deduct job-related expenses, the information will flow from your federal return  to the state return, so enter it in Federal>Deductions and Credits>Employment Expenses>Job-Related Expenses

When you are self-employed you can enter home office expenses on a Schedule C.  You cannot deduct home office expenses on a federal tax return if you are a W-2 employee.
