My box 12 item DD shows a positive amount there, let's say it is $5000.  Does this amount impact my taxes in any way?

It does not directly impact your taxes.  It is not taxable income.  The amount in DD is the amount paid for health insurance by you and your employer throughout the year and is included for informational purposes only.  Although if you itemize then the part you paid out of your paycheck for health insurance might be deductible depending on the way your healthcare premiums are set-up.

Not having health insurance can impact your return through the Shared Responsibility Payment.
