Question

I am a delivery driver who uses my personal vehicle. My expenses were $12,950, but inputting this hardly changes my refund. Why is this?

Are you an employee or an independent contractor?

Where in the program are you reporting those expenses?

It seems like you are posting from online Deluxe---not from the Self-Employed software.   Where did you enter expenses from delivery driving?    If you are a W-2 employee, you cannot deduct your job-related expenses on a federal return.  In some states, you may be able to get a state deduction for job-related expenses.

W-2 employees cannot deduct job-related expenses on a federal return.  Job-related expenses were eliminated as a federal deduction for W-2 employees by the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond.  Your state tax laws might be different in AL, AR, CA, HI, MN, NY or PA.

If you live in a state that lets you deduct job-related expenses, the information will flow from your federal return  to the state return, so enter it in Federal>Deductions and Credits>Employment Expenses>Job-Related Expenses

If you are an independent contractor, then you should be using online Self-Employed or any version of the desktop  (CD/download) software and put your business expenses on a Schedule C.
