To enter a IRA contribution -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Retirement and Investments
  • On Traditional and Roth IRA Contributions, click the start or update button

Or enter ira contributions in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ira contributions

Where it goes on the actual tax forms, depends on what kind of IRA contribution it is.  But, if you enter it, as described in the other reply, TurboTax (TT) will put it in the right place.

If it is a deductible Traditional IRA (TIRA) contribution, it will go on line 19 of Schedule 1.

If it is a non deductible TIRA, it goes on line 1 of form 8606.

A Roth IRA contribution is not entered anywhere on the actual IRS forms,  but TT will track it on the worksheets.  If the contribution makes you eligible for the Retirement savers contribution Credit, TT will enter it on form 8880. TIRA contributions also go on form 8880, if you are otherwise qualified for that low income credit.
