The tax and interest deduction worksheet is used if you are going to itemized deductions on a Form 1040 Schedule A.

If it is not applicable to your situation you can delete the form by:

  1. Selecting Tax Tools in the left side menu
  2. Clicking Tools
  3. Under Other helpful links, selecting Delete a Form
  4. Scrolling down to the form or worksheet you would like to delete.
  5. Selecting Delete
  6. Clicking the Continue With My Return button

How do I take care of this issue on the turbo tax app. Can I just not fill it out?

I don’t know how to enter Total State & Local Tax Rate (4).
What is sales tax rate in HI?

Do I need to fill this out if I’m itemizing?

No, you do not need to fill this out. You are only allowed a tax deduction for the greater of income tax or sales tax paid in 2021 up to a maximum of $10,000 for total taxes paid. The state income tax paid will automatically import for any taxes withheld during the year. If you feel this is greater than the sales tax you paid during the year, which it often is, then you will not gain any additional deduction by filling out the sales tax section.

If you do want to fill it out to see which provides the greater benefit, the sales tax you pay does depend on what part of Hawaii you live in but is between 4 and 4.5%.
