You would need to purchase and use the download version for the 2016 return. You can find that here https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

It cannot be done online. TurboTax Online is only for the current tax year.

And the 2016 return would then need to be prepared, printed and mailed. You cannot e-file a prior year return.

The other option would be to download the Forms and Instructions, free, from the IRS website at this link https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs complete them by hand and mail to them.

You can not do 2016 and prior using Turbo Tax. They only sell the last 3 years. You might want to go to a local accountant or tax place if you have a complicated return. For simple returns you can fill out the forms by hand.

You can fill out the blank forms for free.

Don’t forget your state. And you will have to print and mail your returns. So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
