Michigan Estimated income tax

My daughter filled her federal and Michigan state taxes on 03/03/2025.  Find out that she has to pay the 2025. Michigan estimated income tax. She did not want to pay any estimates taxes for 2025.  What does she need to do?

Does she need to amend the 2024 Michigan state tax returns to make changes to cancel the estimated taxes?

Will there be a penalty for not paying the quarterly 2025 MI-1040ES, Michigan estimated income taxes?

She can choose to not pay the estimated taxes for 2025 and disregard the vouchers. However, she may be penalized for not making estimated payments if she owes at least $500 on her 2025 tax return and doesn't pay at least:

    - 90% of her 2025 tax liability

    - 100% of her 2024 tax liability (110% if her income is $150k or more)

Ok. It is related to my daughter filing taxes for the education expenses and grants from University of Michigan. She got extra grants for other than the tuition to pay the room and board. Not working and no w-2 income. She payed $717.00 to the state and will receive about the same amount of grants from college next school’s year and she can still pay the tax for the 2025 year without paying estimates.
So she can discard the vouchers and not pay the estimated tax of 2025. Correct?

Yes, you can trash them.  Or use them as scrap paper... And no, she does not need to pay any estimated tax payments, only the tax due from her tax return.

What to do with 1040-ES vouchers
