Need for CPA or Tax Lawyer

For a married filing joint individual who is a straight W2, with standard deductions.

Single income earner (my wife did work for a few months this year).

In your professional opinion, what would the benefit be of hiring a CPA or Tax Lawyer to assist with our taxes? Or do you think that just using Turbotax with CPA assistance should be sufficient for our needs?

We've been using Turbotax now for 8 years, and have had no issues. I just wanted to be sure that we are okay to continue with our normal practice since it's worked great for us all these years.

The only complex transaction we've had out of the ordinary this year is that I closed our both my 457 and Arizona State Retirement pension accounts and withdrew the money.

TurboTax has loads of CPAs, Enrolled Agents and Tax Lawyers who help with taxes. I am one of those (CPA) and certainly believe the services we provide are top notch. Based on the information you provided in your query, there is nothing anyone our team could not handle. Or to put it more clearly without all those negatives. TurboTax has you covered.

Your needs can easily be met by using TurboTax. If you made an early withdrawal from retirment accounts, there will be a 10% penalty.  The distribution will be taxable and you will receive Forms 1099-R for the amounts.  The program will guide you as to how to enter the income.
