Question

TurboTax no longer sold in retail stores.

Research indicates TurboTax is no longer being carried in retail stores - with rare exception. Seems the stores are as disgusted as users are with the price increases and the doing away with the physical CD. I've found only one office retailer who allegedly carries a non-CD version and a few wholesale/warehouse outlets that stock the product (but require a membership).

So now, besides the CD being done away with, a customer cannot even buy the product at a retail store. The only option is purchasing a membership to a warehouse outlet or opening an online account at a retailer.

You just proved my point - there is only ONE retailer on that already very short list that carries the product in the store !!!

Absolutely one of the most misguided business decisions I've ever encountered.  Is Intuit's strategy to drive customers away and materially erode the TurboTax customer base?

You're shouting into the wind.  No one on this forum (including the moderators) has any influence with whoever it was who decided to stop selling physical media.  Maybe they already know that sales of in-store boxed media is such a small fraction of their business that it won't hurt in the long run.  Money talks.  If their sales drop too much, they will probably reverse the decision next year.

That is NOT an authorized TurboTax retailer.  Purchase at your own risk.

On the Sam'sClub website, they clearly show two versions of the various TT products...one for digital download, and one for pickup in the store.  Also, Costco shows this text on their website for each product: "No CD. Available for download.  Some warehouses may have this product in stock"  And in another post here (about 1099-B for 2024 vs 2024, poster showed 2 images of TT package...2023 CD box and 2024 product code package he had just picked up.

I find that Intuit turbotax does not understand that all people that use their software do not have "fast" internet.  It usuall takes my DSL about 3 or 4 hour to download, since the baud rate is so slow.  Knowing how large turbotax home and office it would take me a day or two to download.  being that last person on a phone line, Verizon stating that there will NEVER, EVER be fios place on phone lines that are 5 to 6 miles through the woods, I guess I will have to find another software.  I don't mind spending that money for the software, but the management's answer was to "check with my ISP to see if there was a problem".  I am lucky that I don't have intermittent service.  Living in a rural area, having a desktop and not a lab top that I can lug around and find a "coffee shop that i can download from to rent a room at a motel to just download their program seems to be a bit much.  Their new employee KEVIANA is a true wonder!  She understood my problem and tried to make it right for me.  but the only answer she got from either supervisor or tech was the quote above.  I have used turbo tax for over 25 years and yet I now don't matter!  Thank you, but NO MORE!

@rleeper676   You can now buy an install CD for $10 after you buy a License Code for the version you want.

The problem is not that I can buy a download disc for $10 or that I have to buy the software for another $120.

The problem for many Americans is that we can't download a huge file without interruptions in our service.  You remember DSL right?  Slow internet, many interruptions!  there is no "High Speed Internet " in rural America!  That $10 disc only gets you a link to Intuit"s website to purchase the sofeware.

It's too bad the won't be offering a physical cd. I've done my taxes with them since they first offered Turbo Tax. I do both my business and personal taxes with them.  I live in a rural state and can not download anything of any size. That's 200 dollars they won't be getting from me.
    Apparently they don't care.

I will be using a different tax software this year.

    Goodbye  Turbo Tax!!

You can purchase a CD if you have the license code from the download purchase - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/

And how long does it take to get the cd?

If it's like every other company, my taxes will be filed late....

Agreed 100%.  Sounds like two separate issues, both of which are bad decisions.  First is virtually abandoning the CD.   There are reasons that millions of us prefer the CD, rather than downloading an e-version of the software.  Security, security, and security is first and foremost.  Speed of downloading and the ever-present TurboTax message of "We know this is taking longer than a few minutes.  Please be patient" makes it worse.  And when you CAN find a CD somewhere, it's at inconvenient places.  Why on earth would you pull your products OUT OF Target and Wal-mart, the two busiest stores there are?
