Question

I received two different W2s from the same employer. Boxes 12-20 are different amounts. I added another box but now it is showing as a duplicate when it is under review.

Turbo Tax is stating that it is duplicate entries for boxes 12,14, 15-17 and 18-20

What do you mean you added another box?  That sounds like the right way.

If the EIN number in box b is the same and you work in more than 1 state or city, sometimes they will give you another W2 with the extra state information on it and the top part the same or not filled in.  If this is the case, list one W-2 but include both state or local  taxes on it.  It will let you type in more than one line for boxes 15-20.  Don't add the boxes together.

Same for boxes 12 & 14 if there is no room on the first W2 they can give you another W2 with the extra boxes on it.  So list them all on 1 W2.  For box 12 just enter it in the next row or box.  It doesn't have to match the box 12a-d etc.

Or ask the employer why you got 2.

Just enter the information from the second W-2, boxes 12–20 by adding another item; don't enter another W-2.  Employers enter more than one code and amounts in boxes 12 and 14.  Boxes 15–20 have state and local tax information and you can have multiple entries in those boxes as well if you had income in more than one state and/or local tax information.  As VolvoGirl indicated, when there isn't enough room on your W-2, your employer will issue a second one with the additional information.

Hi, I received two W2s from the same employer, but the EIN #s are different, so I have to enter them separately. I am stuck on the 'local taxes' section. When I import by W2s, I am also getting a "we need to fix an error with boxes 18-20." I am paying taxes in two cities as well. It imported three lines/localities (one line for New Albany and two lines for Columbus). They are telling me to delete the duplicate locality, but according to my W2s, this is correct. I literally don't know how to correct this.  : (

Why do you have 2 lines for Columbus?  Add them together.
