Should my wages in box 1 , box 3 , and box 5 all be the same ?

My wages , social security wages , and medicare wages are all the same and I think it is messing up my refund amount.

They can all be the same or all different. Boxes 3 & 5 won't affect your tax return. Are you getting any error messages?

It is very common for Box 1, 3, and 5 to all have the same amount. As VolvoGirl mentioned, there are also times when the amounts can be different and that could be when contributions are made to a 401k, or if the person received taxable tips.

If your refund seems extremely off, you can double-check the amounts you entered. You can review your entries to make sure there are no typos or that you did not answer a question incorrectly.

You can also access your personalized refund information in TurboTax:

Open or continue your return.
Select Federal in the left menu.
Choose Federal Review.
Under the Explain Why section of the Federal Review screen, select Why am I getting a refund of $? to see more details on your refund and how it was calculated.
