Question

Why is the online version more expensive than if I were to buy on Amazon or a store?

You can’t compare the online versions (<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/">https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/</a>) with the Desktop CD/Download program.  Totally different programs and pricing.

Or do you mean to compare Amazon to these?  <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="Https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/">Https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/</a>

Let’s see tax forms and rules are IRS defined not by Intuit or any preparer.
So no, the Online software does not make any different calculations or fill any different forms than the PC version. Therefore, they should cost the same.

PC version $70

Online version $140

Why 2x price different?

@user17702387150 What are you comparing to with the online editions?

The Deluxe online editions is currently $49.  A state program using Deluxe is $39

Website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/deluxe.jsp

There are no e-file fees using the online editions.

There is a $25 e-file fee for state tax return using the desktop editions.

And if you are looking at Deluxe the stores sell 2 different versions
Deluxe with a state program download and
Deluxe without state for states without an income tax.
Turbo Tax only sells Deluxe with state.
So be sure you are comparing the same thing.

So it is saying it will be $79 to file my online return, but at Target, the product is $39.99.  Curious why the difference

The $39.99 target price is for federal only. It is $49.99 for federal + state.

But I would still be $20 ahead by going that route, correct?  I am just curious if I am missing something

How can you tell?  It says + state all over it and in the description.

yes I see Deluxe at Turbo Tax is 69.99 at https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/deluxe.jsp

So get it at Target.  You can always look for sales in the stores.  Buy the best price but stick with the well known big stores.  There are several bad websites selling for a lot less and are not legit.

I paid $119 + $59 for state using Intuit's Turbo Tax Premier on line for 2022 tax year reporting. I saw at Target today $94.99 for Fed AND state? WHY?  I've been using Turbo Tax for years and as a loyal patron I and others should be getting deals as Target does. There isn't a 'model number on Target or Intuit's description, so Turbo Tax Premier should be the same. Anyone have any answers?  Can I get a refund of the difference from Intuit? or cancel and then process the Target version?

Online is different than the CD/Download Desktop program.  Also in the Desktop program it is $25 to efile the state return so that adds to the price.  Did you use the Online Premier version or the new Premium version (the names are similar)?  Online Premier is only $89.  The new Premium version is $119 and sounds like the same as the higher Self Employed version.

Intuit preforms a questionnaire to assist and guide you to which product to use. My interest is to complete my federal and state taxes properly. I do not know or is it apparent of the difference between Premier or 'new' Premier or the download/discs. There could be charges to e-file on the Target version/down?  OK so then I'll print and mail it in for free and save. I would also mail in my on-line processed returns if i was to be charged, again for free.  The only upgrade or info I get about on-line is "Do you want MAXX or with live support.  Federal taxes-forms should be the same whether it is online or download or manually using .gov forms on line or on paper.  Or is there some special forms using the Intuit on-line system and when e-filing besides the barcoded cover page, that help with processing the proper procedures and completion?
