Question

My W2 shows wages as less than gross salary. I paid almost $8000 between pre tax health insurance and 401K. Would the W2 wages be negative this amount?

Last year, the gross salary and wages were the same and I had the same insurance plan, so I'm confused.

If your Box 1, W-2 amount is less than your salary, it is because you have pre-tax deductions from your salary under one or more employer plans.  If you are not sure about your Box 1 amount, your payroll department can provide the details of the calculation of your Box 1 amount. Both your pre-tax health insurance and your 401(k) would reduce your Box 1 amount compared to your gross salary.
