Question

How many allowances do we claim if we are married and have no kids and both work similar paying jobs?

I I have used the irs w-4 calculator sheet but under the both working area but I am unsure. Do we both put a number down. We got married in July of 2015 and didn't change our w4 info (0 allowances). I am trying to update it now for my future tax season. We made about 71k combined and I make about 1k more than here. Do I only enter 2 or do we both enter 1?

Also, I assume we select the "married but withholding at a higher single tax rate" or do we select "married" only?

You will have to see and adjust as you go depending on what you want for a refund/balance due.... but if you were both used to Single & 1 then changing to Married & zero will have almost the same effect. Use the charts in the Pub 15 to make your choices ....https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf
