    Your tax id number is your social security number. If you are asking about your employer's EIN or Tax ID number, then that is a number that will be on the W-2 that you get from your employer.

    If you are self-employed, and want to get an EIN (employer ID number, tax number), you can do that online with the IRS in about 20 minutes.  It's a good idea, because then you don't have to give out your personal SSN.  But you have to apply.
