Question

turbo Tax 2025 Desktop will not open once loaded

loaded Turbo Tax about a month ago, entered most of my data.  Today, 2/12/2026 it would not open.  When click on the Icon, it flickers the Blue Turbo Tax Logo, but does not open.  I tried reloading the program using the Repair Option, went thru the loading, but still will not open.  Then Deleted the App, and tried reloading and got the same results.   Deleted cookies and cashes, tried loading again, still would not open, just flickered blue logo.

Any other suggestions?  Computer Microsoft Surface ARM chipset, Windows 11

Instead of the icon can you launch it this way?  After it's installed, can you launch it by going to the  Windows start menu and in the presented list of programs selecting  to launch TurboTax 2025 there?

Or have you tried right-clicking on the TurboTax desktop icon and in the popup going to Properties then Compatibility and choosing "Run this program as an administrator?"

I have the same problem, @htgreen3, on the same type of system - Surface ARM chipset, Win 11. I've tried the same things, including your suggestions, @mesquitebean. I've had TTax installed for over a month and nearly finished my taxes. I'm guessing this was either a TTax or Windows update that caused a conflict with the ARM chipset. It's not the first time I've run into a problem with the ARM chipset compatibility. Sure hope this gets fixed quickly!

    @jswafa and @htgreen3

I can't address anything about chipsets.   You can phone TurboTax Support, if you wish to see if there is any known issue.  I'll give the contact link below.

I'm kinda just thinking out loud what I might try.   Here's something else to try, if you wish, but ONLY if you first disconnect from the Internet; i.e., unplug your wired Ethernet connection or turn off/disconnect from a wireless router, etc.    Then if you temporarily disable your antivirus, firewall, and other security software, does it then launch correctly?   If it does, then you would have at least narrowed it down to a security aspect.

NOTE:  Then don't forget to turn your security software programs/devices back on before you connect back up to the Internet.

I had completed my taxes on February 11th with the file saved as I do when I'm working on my taxes. It was in my 2025 tax folder and I decided I was going to file my Federal and State taxes yesterday.  I clicked on the Turbo icon in my tray (on my Mac) and got notification that there  was an update, and then that notice disappeared.  There no progress bar showing the update taking place which was unusual..

I did a right mouse on the doc TT and saw the words Turbo Tax Updating and above that was my executable.
I ''quit'' turbo tax and tired to open by clicking on my TT file to see if that would force open the Turbo application but it did not.

I was thinking, I was going to have to download TT again from installturbotax.com but i waited. but was on "Hold'' waiting to talk to a TT representative but that was going to be a 30 minute wait.

I had restarted my Mac at some point, but that was not solving the problem.
After a period of time, probably about 1/2 hour.  I clicked TT icon in the tray again it put up a message that Updates are available - so I clicked on install and the "Install bar'' begain

I think, what was going on was the TT was receiving and UPDATE and it was downloading and it was a large file update and took time.  So what appeared to seem like an application problem, was resolved by waiting a period of time.

After the install files and progress bar completed, it did the install as Intuit usually does and said it was installing and reopening and it completed and the Turbo Application did Reopen and when I clicked on "File'' on the TT Menu at the top - wiht great relief it took me to my Tax return and allowed me to complete my Turbo Tax filing

It was odd that TT was preforming an update without the User Interface showing the user what is going on, leaving my very concerned and annoyed, as i've never really had an application problem with TT in the past and have used TT for 25 years.

I know, this is a long 'story'' but hopefully it is helpful to anyone having this issue.

If on a Mac "Right Mouse click'' and see if TT is installing an update and then just give it time.

This application should have provided the ""User'' (ME) an opportunity to know everything was ok but that UI screen was not there for this seemingly large update.

I hung up from my TT Phone call (still waiting) and completed my Tax filing ..

I had same experience.  TurboTax tech support laid a goose egg and left me high and dry.

I tried every solution (reinstall, shut off firewall and antivirus, cleared browsing history...hours wasted.

I found the solution on a websearch....do into control panel, click uninstall a program.  Then click on the last version of Microsoft Visual C ++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) and click "Repair."

Program immediately worked.  No thanks to tech support.

Wow that worked for me @cmtros1! As you said - no reboot, just went to Microsoft Visual C ++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64), hit "Modify" then "Repair"- done!!

Thanks a lot for posting this.

I couldn't sleep, so I got up and tried several things, ended up doing a system recovery, it deleted my apps, reloaded Windows 11 and all updates, then I reloaded Turbo Tax.  It loaded and opened as it should.  I reloaded my 2025 file into it, all was well.  I did have to reload most of my apps, but it did clear up a printer issue I was having in the process. So it wasn't all bad.  Thanks for the suggestion from the forum here.  I looks like a easier solution has been discovered for others having the same issue.

My version of this problem seemed to be related to an issue with Adobe Creative Cloud (which is used by TurboTax). Creative Cloud wouldn't initialize. To address this I went into my Apps/Installed apps settings and tried to uninstall Creative Cloud. The system wouldn't let me do this but it did let me run a "Repair" of Creative Cloud. Once this was complete I could successfully start Creative Cloud by itself. I then exited Creative Cloud and ran TurboTax 2025 as Administrator. This time TurboTax started right up. Hope this helps!

I am glad so many of you have been able to fix this issue, but I have now tried all of the above suggestions to no avail.  I had TT loaded on this Surface previously but due to an oversight on my part, I had to rebuild the unit from scratch yesterday.  Thus, all files are fresh and fully up to date.  My system is like the others: Win11, ARM chipset, etc.  I also tried loading TT on my wife's exact same PC and it worked perfectly.  I have also run through the suggestions on Google AI and had no luck.

So, if anyone has any further suggestions to move TT beyond the "OK, we know it's taking a bit more than a moment", I would be eternally grateful.

I finally was able to get this resolved.    I reran the repair on the C++ app, shut off wifi, turned off all anit-virus, connected wifi via my iphone (which has defender running on it, opened TT in admin mode.  It did its search for updates, requested the license number and then fully opened.  This makes me think there is something in my antivirus on my pc that is blocking access.  To check that, I tuned antivirus back on, changed wifi back to my internet provider, and reopened TT is normal (vs admin) mode and while it was slow, it reopened, so I think I am finally ready to get my taxes done.  Thank you for all of the above suggestions which gave me hope that this could be resolved vs having to make the fated call to Intuit.

I am having the same issue with a SurfacePro ARM chipset. I've tried all the suggestions. Need an update.
