I filed my return and it was rejected due to some issue with the QMID code on one of my heat pumps. I'm ticked off that they allowed me to file and get rejected when they must know it's messed up.

Thanks for your post.  I'll be entering this info as well for my HVAC upgrade, so I'll be on the lookout for the issue.

Here's a list of Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit qualified manufacturers from the IRS.  If you don't have a QMID Code for the specific part you're claiming a credit for, check with the manufacturer.

@MarilynG-

I have entered the info for my new A/C.

I did not have a "Home energy audits by a certified home energy auditor," so I entered zero for that line and did not get the A/C credit.  Entering $1 works.

Instructions for Form 5695, "Residential Energy Credits," state:

Line 26a. To qualify for the credit, a home energy audit must have
included an inspection of your main home located in the United
States and a written report prepared by a Qualified Home Energy
Auditor or under the supervision of a Qualified Home Energy Auditor.
If you check the “No” box, you can't claim the home energy audit credit. [emphasis added]"

Furthermore, Form 5695 asks for A/C information before it asks about energy audits.

This seems to be a TurboTax bug, not an IRS requirement for the credit.

Thanks.

No, a Home Energy Audit is not required to claim the Home Energy Credit, but you can get an extra credit for it if you had one.  It's best to leave it blank (not $0) if you didn't have one.

Here's more detailed info on the Home Energy Credit.

Yep, mine was just rejected because of the Energy Credit I submitted.  Says to check back mid-march and try to submit it again due to some problem.  Wonderful TurboTax strikes again.

When I tried to send my returns, I was prompted and informed that this will be fixed on 3/6.

Marilyn - Per moreilly_2's post above, can you confirm please that this fix was in today's (March 6) update?

Thanks.

Is this still broken? In TT online, I deleted the form and for a Rheem heat pump water heater (QMID K3A8) I get through the questions and it still says I qualify for $0. I owe taxes, so it isn't an issue with that.

The FreeTaxUSA tax software seems to calculate this appropriately

They screwed up my state taxes with their "alternative filing methods"

We e-filed MFJ taxes on Jan 31 and included forms for Energy credits.  The return was rejected.  Turbotax upgraded software a few weeks later and the forms were re-filed (efiled) on Feb 23 and accepted on Feb 24.  It has been more than 21 days since filing.  I called IRS yesterday and was advised that the file has been flagged for review because of the rejection and refile, and because of the energy credit.  I was told that it may be up to 10 weeks for refund to be released.  I am quite frustrated by this turn of events.  Anyone else having this experience?

I was not aware nor informed of any QMID/QMIN glitches with TT.  I e-filed on Mar 5.  Called IRS to check on status after a month and told return was under error review.  Called again 2 weeks later and found out 5695 rejected for incorrect or incomplete QMIN.  I received the rejection letter yesterday.  It is only through this post I learned of the consequence of a mfg QMID that starts with the letter "I", even though the TT pdf file shows it correctly.   The two IRS reps recommended that I resubmit 5695 through the IRS portal AND NOT VIA TURBOTAX...   how's that Intuit?  something to add to the back side of this product package. "...note: may not be recommended by the IRS"  Who knows now how long before I see my tax overpayment refund.  Very bad form TT.

I re-read this post.  What does Marylin mean by: Issues for QMID codes beginning with 'I' or 'O' being rejected by the IRS can be resolved by entering a legit code that doesn't begin with those letters.  The IRS computer is not not matching codes to equipment, only checking for legit codes.    Other than the valid 4 character code matching the product, which starts with the letter I, what am I suppose to enter?  I might be a bit stupid, but what is a legit code?
