Question

Vanguard online import keeps saying "success" but then fails to continue

TTax offers me to auto-import my 1099 from Vanguard, makes me sign into TurboTax online and authenticate two different ways, takes me to a Vanguard page where it asks for my account number and doc ID. I enter those, the browser page says "Connection complete!  Success! We got your tax data. You can now return to TurboTax."

I go back to TTax, the only options are Back, Continue, Skip Import.  Both Back and Skip Import take you backwards. "Continue" just launches the process again; opens a new browser page, asking again for the Vanguard account number and doc ID.

I did check after both Back and Skip Import to see if there was any evidence of the import success, but no.

Can this be fixed please?

PS I am trying to add 1099 Consolidated and using TTax Desktop on Windows, and Chrome.

UPDATE: I had the same issue on Betterment so it's not just a Vanguard thing, it's an Intuit thing. I was able to get around it a) by switching to Edge, then allowing local network/device access when prompted (did this for Vanguard) and then/also by changing the setting in Chrome to allow access after I'd previously denied it (for Betterment a couple weeks later).  Helpful instructions on that are, courtesy of davidahlers:

You can restore permissions for this website to talk to TurboTax by doing this:

  • Chrome Settings: Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Additional Permissions > Local network access and allow the site.

I am having the same problem.  It says the import was completed, but nothing was updated.  Turbotax Premier Windows 11.  Longtime Turbotax user.  I enter account number and document id, but am never asked for my Vanguard username/password.  Don't understand how Turbotax can import without knowing Vanguard username/Password.

From reading other posts here I found a workaround that if you set your default browser as Edge, it seems to work. I tried this and it worked for me. But obviously TTax still needs to fix it in Chrome - both the fact that it doesn't work, and that it gives you a success message in the middle of it failing to work.

Import failed multiple times with Brave browser (a Chrome based browser), but after making Firefox my default browser I imported Vanguard successfully.

Same problem this week with TT Deluxe.  Has failed on all bank accounts thus far.. including E*Trade by Morgan Stanley,  Ally Bank and Vanguard.   Gives that same statement "Success! We got your tax data. You can now return to TurboTax.", but back at Turbotax there is no sign of any input of data.    Something is grossly wrong with Turbotax 2025.

I'll add that it imported by data from my 2024 TT filing documents.  Listed all of the accounts I'd like to add 1099 data into 2025.  When you click on any of those accounts "update" link.  It goes to the master import list.. of EVERY bank option.  TT has no sense of the fact I clicked on the Vanguard account from 2024, that still exists today.

Looks like I'm back to manual entries circa 2019.  Intuit better correct this quickly.  My tech geek son has shown me how on Claude AI Pro, he can build a tax filing App after a couple of days and few hours each day.  Still has the import issue, but so does TT as of 2/21/26.

Has everyone with this problem using Edge and allowed access to your drives when that popup occurs? Unless you do that, it will not work. Once I did that I had no issue with Morgan Stanley. Also check if your antivirus or firewall is blocking access.

I have been having exactly the same issue importing data from Edward Jones.  I'm relieved to find that the fault is not with my financial institution, but I do wish that Intuit would send out a patch ASAP.

What problem are you having @wm5ramey? Have you tried the steps below? This is not a TurboTax issue but due to browser security updates.

If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.

To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:

  1. Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.
  2. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.
  3. Toggle the switch to ON.
  4. Refresh the page and attempt your import again.

If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:

  • Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements.
  • Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.
  • Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

the clicking on the LOCK icon by the URL, when Charles Schwab was pulled up DID work.  Thanks

Now my issues advanced to the next page, that showed Connection Successful, and then a popup to allow the data transfer.   There were two buttons   "Block"  and "Allow".

I clicked on Allow -- nothing.   clicked multiple times.  nothing.   Nothing if I click on block.

If i clicked on the link "why am I getting this pop-up" it immediately opens a new instruction page.  So the mouse and clicks are working.  but the enter Allow page seems frozen.
