What kind of 1099 do you have? There are over 20 different kinds. There is no plain Form 1099. All 1099 forms have one or more letters after the 1099. The most common are 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, 1099-NEC, 1099-R, and 1099-G.

To be honest I'm not sure this will be the first year I need to claim it.I accepted a job as a contracted peer support Worker.Does that help the question any

You didn't say what kind of 1099 you have. Saying that you were a "contracted" worker suggests that it is a 1099-NEC. Is that what you have? If so, you were a self-employed contractor, not an employee. (Or at least that's how you were treated by whoever you worked for.) You have to report the income as business income. It will be on a Schedule C included in your tax return.
