Is it still possible to file as married but at higher single rate
Best answer by ErnieS0

Check the box for Single or Married filing separately @flyermania88 if you want your employer to withhold tax at the single rate.

You can withhold single/separate even if you are planning on filing married joint. You will just have more tax taken out, which often helps if your spouse works or if one of your works part-time.

TurboTax has a free W-4 withholding calculator that will show how your refund will change if you choose different W-4 options. It will also show you what numbers to put on the W-4. Try it! W-4 Calculator 2022.

Yes, It is perfectly acceptable to indicate on your W4 to withhold as Single. People often do this to try to be sure that enough taxes are withheld.

Thanks for the fast reply! “Married but at a higher single rate” used to be an option on a W4, but now all I see is “single or married filing separately”, “married filing jointly”, or “head of household”. So how would I accomplish this?
