Georgia Qualified Education Credit

When doing my GA state taxes, I entered the amount for the QEE credit as an estimated tax payment instead of a federal tax deduction.  However, I see in the Easy Step view of my GA state taxes that I have not only an Education Expense Credit but also a Business and Individual Credit and a Georgia Estimated Payment all of the same amount.

I read another thread that I can confirm that there is not a double credit with the Education Expense and Business and Individual Credit by checking Form 500 and I do see that the amount is not doubled.

How do I check that the Georgia Estimated Payment is also not credited in addition to the Education Expense credit?

    To check the payments:

    • Form 500, line26 (GA estimated tax payments)
    • Be sure it does not include the credit from line 20
    • Only actual quarterly payments should be included in the sum - not QEE.
    • You may need to remove it in the federal section from estimated payments.

    To check the credit:

    • Form 500, line 20 -credit from Sch 2.
    • Sch 2 -credit code 125 for QEE and the amount. You should see it here.

Take a look at your GA 500 and start with line 16 total tax and watch the numbers to verify the subtractions  so that you end up with the correct refund/ balance due.
