My son is a high school student and has been on home studies due to COVID and we have had to buy him a Laptop as well as other items so can any of the items purchased for his schooling be deducted?

I have also been working from Home due to COVID and I would like to know if any expenses relative to my home that have increased due to working from home would be deductible?

There is no credit or deduction for a high school student. There is no deduction for any extra expenses for working from home if you are an employee.

Unfortunately  you are correct, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act eliminated the tax deductions for employees.  You can only get a deduction for home office expenses and the like if you are an independent contractor.  Here's a TurboTax article for employees who work from home.

High school does not count for school tax credits and / or books, supplies, etc.
