I know there are debt relief programs and debt forgiveness opportunities out there, but I have private student loans instead of Federal ones. Do any of these programs work for private loans or are they only for Federal ones?

A helpful point for anyone dealing with private student loans: most federal student-loan forgiveness programs don't apply to private loans. However, borrowers may still have options such as refinancing, negotiating directly with the lender, or exploring hardship and repayment programs. It’s worth checking the specific terms of your loan before assuming no relief is available.

Federal student loan forgiveness and government relief programs (like Public Service Loan Forgiveness or Income-Driven Repayment plans) do not apply to private student loans. Private loans are private business contracts managed by banks or credit unions, meaning they have no access to federal cancellation benefits
