W-4 Dependent help

For tax year 2022; when completing my W-4 can I claim a child that is 16 yrs old but turning 17 in April 2022? And if so is it the $2000 or $500 amount? thanks.

Congress changed the criteria for the child tax credit to under the age of 18 for tax year 2021 ONLY. Unless they change it again it is supposed to go back to under age 17 at the end of tax year 2022. And it also goes back to the lower amount of $2000 if you get CTC. But....who knows what tax laws will be changed.......

so if they're 17 at end of year 2022 then I can't claim them as a dependent? And I should leave the dependent section empty on my W-4?

No---that does not mean you cannot claim him as a dependent. Age over 16 will only affect the child tax credit. You can still claim a qualified child as dependent until they turn 19, or until they turn 24 if they are a full-time student. You can still claim a 17 year old as a dependent.
