Very confused about IRS 2025 W4 Calculator

I just used the 2025 W4 calculator on the IRS site for my husband & I. When it created the W4 forms, it has my form withholding an extra $165 from my paycheck. On my husband's form, it has the following number for step 3 "-7471". I'm confused why it is putting a negative number there. Can anyone help me understand this? Thank you!

If the calculator says you should withhold $165 more, it means you aren't withholding enough taxes currently.  Regarding step 3, is the part of the form that calculates the credits for dependents.

I recommend that you review the IRS calculator once more to verify if you obtain the same results.  You can also use the following TurboTax calculator:

I am having the same issue with the negative number on box 3. I am married and only have one job while filing jointly. My wife is a stay home mom.

I posted this question on Reddit and someone said there have been some "bugs" with the 2025 calculator.

You can visit the TurboTax W-4 Withholding Calculator.  The calculator will ask about your filing status, the number of dependents, and other information in addition to entering your gross wages.  The calculator will show you how to complete your W4 Form.
